White + gold dream wedding day at Hopetoun House, South Queensferry

Footballer Nathaniel and his wife Emily paired elegant whites with gold glitz for an altogether classy affair at grand Hopetoun House near Edinburgh in June 2016. This pair are complete #couplegoals!

Photographers Alan and Jackie Rankine captured the day (and Nathaniel and Emily’s gorgeous kids – too cute!) and Emily tells us all about it…

I was at college when we met and Nathaniel was playing for Stoke City FC in the academy.

They had to attend college two days a week. His teammate asked for my number but I declined in the hope he would ask instead. It only took about 30 seconds!

The first time I came to Scotland was the day we moved here. I had recently given birth to our daughter and we got the news a Scottish club wanted to sign Nat.

On the way, we flew over Hopetoun House. I knew straight away if we ever got married, that would be the place.

I’m a real girly girl and I’ve loved Hollywood glamour for as long as I can remember. I wanted sparkles but not tack, so I made sure I had plenty of white in the colour scheme to calm the glitz down.

When I went dress shopping, I still felt quite insecure about my post-baby body and I’m not a lover of a salad or the gym.

Luckily I found a dress that suited my curves really well! I promised myself to stop as soon as I found the dress that made me emotional.

I did and I made the right decision.

I’m a lover of Sex and the City so I was always going to be wearing the classic blue Manolo Blahnik shoes Carrie wore when marrying Mr Big. These babies were my something blue!

My something borrowed were the pearls my dad bought my mum for a wedding present. My mum wore my nan’s pearls on her wedding day too.

My grandad gave me the same sixpence for my shoe he gave my mum 25 years ago. He told me to keep it to give to his first great-granddaughter, our daughter Maiya, from him for her wedding day.

We were both raised Christians so we loved that we had the option of having a religious ceremony.

Sara Embleton delivered a beautiful service and read Corinthians 13. We also had the Glasgow Gospel Choir singing, which was incredible!

We danced to Alicia Keys If I Ain’t Got You. Nathaniel just came home from training one day and said he’d heard a perfect song for our first dance on the way home.

It was without doubt the best day of our lives. It was incredible seeing everyone so happy and celebrating for us and our children that we are all now Wedderburns.
