After seven years together, Fraser Hughes proposed in his and fiancé Linda’s favourite place in the world, Dubai (whilst swimming with dolphins no less!) with a brilliant cut platinum solitaire diamond. It was no surprise their mutual love of the luxurious city would influence their big day!
Opting for an intimate ceremony in the sun, the happy couple returned to Scotland for a wedding celebration with 220 of their nearest and dearest – with even Minnie and Mickey in attendance!
Bride Linda tells us about their big day…
We chose Mauritius to get married, just the two of us, stopping in Dubai for two days en route and again for five nights as a magical wedding-moon! We kicked off the day off with a room service champagne breakfast, had some fun in the sun and exchanged gifts.
We had four no-contact hours to give me time to beautify and keep Fraser in suspense before our vows. We topped off our big day with a wedding dinner for two on the beach.
Back home in Scotland, we planned a reception at Glasgow’s iconic Òran Mór and, although we were technically already married, we did everything we could to make it feel like the real thing.
The night before the wedding consisted of pizza, prosecco and a pyjama party, followed by a sleepless night. I couldn’t wait for everyone to see me in the dress!
Shopping for The One was extremely special for me. I went with my mum, who sadly lost her battle with lung disease four months before the wedding.
My dress arrived two days before she passed so we brought it home to get some photos. She said I was going to be the most beautiful bride.
I wore a lace fitted mermaid gown by Enzoani with a trail of beautiful buttons and scalloped edges. On the beach, it was strapless and back in Glasgow, I teamed it with a jacket and belt and my red Manolo Blahnik shoes, which complemented my bridesmaid Lynette’s Pippa Middleton-esque dress.
We had photographs taken in the Botanic Gardens, then 220 guests were piped into Òran Mór for a massive table service buffet.
I hadn’t expected to add many DIY details, trusting experts Supernova Wedding Design + Flowers with the red, pearl and lace-themed décor, flowers and stationery, but Pinterest made me do it! I added personal touches like Disney-themed flip flops and a homemade dessert table.
We had a photo slideshow of the our Mauritius nuptials was displayed on the big screen and band Karma Rockets and DJ Noble Whitelaw created an electric atmosphere making sure that, unless people were off posing in the photobooth, they were throwing shapes.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get better, I had a surprise visit from Minnie and Mickey Mouse, which was a gift from my closest friends. It was the most magical experience!
