SWD visits: The Aberdeen Altens Hotel

Katie Bletcher enjoys a relaxing break in the luxurious suite of this spacious and contemporary Aberdeen venue

Stepping into the atrium of the Aberdeen Altens Hotel I’m instantly drawn to the stunning Art Deco dome.

There’s a great feeling of space and it’s easy to picture happy couples posing for wedding pics underneath the stained glass.

Neutral tones and the friendly staff make me feel right at home and although the hotel boasts the largest number of bedrooms in the Granite City, there’s nothing overwhelming or impersonal about it.

Couples wishing to tie the knot at the Aberdeen Altens are spoilt for choice.

The pretty Albyn Suite on the ground floor is the perfect space for ceremonies of up to 60 guests and is also ideal for arrival drinks and canapes, while upstairs the Grandholme is suited to larger ceremonies (100 guests).

Its full wall of windows means it’s bathed in natural light and it’s a great blank canvas to style however you wish.

Back downstairs, the Rubislaw Suite ballroom is the largest of the reception rooms.

It can be partitioned in two and can seat up to 180 guests for your ceremony and wedding breakfast.

With its double bar, dancefloor and built-in stage the room doesn’t need any added extras but I’m told stylish couples are taking advantage of the neutral backdrop and choosing to drape the room or bring in light-up dancefloors for added wow factor.

Made for you…

While there’s scope to create a totally bespoke day, the hotel offers a selection of packages to lighten the planning load.

Each package includes a dedicated wedding consultant, complimentary pre-wedding tasting, personalised table menus, place cards and table plans and overnight accommodation for the couple with champagne.

The friendly staff can also organise all the extras, whether you need a DJ or want to impress with a doughnut wall.

Time to relax…

A huge draw for couples tying the knot here has to be the suite where we stayed, complete with its own balcony and separate living room.

From the super-comfy kingsize bed and Nespresso machine to the bathroom TV and powerful rainfall shower, this suite has luxury down to a tee.

In the club

You’ll love the hotel’s leisure club.

What better way to kickstart your wedding morning than with a work-out or swim?

There’s a spa pool, a steam room and sauna that’ll leave you feeling thoroughly relaxed before you say ‘I do’.
