Scottish Wedding Venues editor Patricia-Ann is utterly charmed by one of Scotland’s most romantic wedding venues, Dundas Castle…
Dundas Castle has to be one of the grandest buildings I’ve ever seen. Privately tucked away at the end of a beautifully manicured driveway, its façade grandly emerges from between the trees, ready to wow any incoming visitors.
Before we even enter the castle, which is located in South Queensferry, we’re totally swept up in the beauty of the surrounding grounds. Just to the left of the entrance is a beautiful courtyard where you can hold your wedding ceremony on a sunny day.
Straight ahead is the pen where Dundas’ llamas live (and I can attest that they are very, very cute) and to the right of the castle is a beautiful old tree complete with a wooden swing that is just perfect for wedding photographs.
We’re taken on a tour of the luxurious castle and fall in love with the beauty of each room, each distinct with its very own style. The bedrooms have been beautifully decorated to theme, with some of their larger suites’ décor being inspired by the seasons.
But one of the most spectacular aspects of Dundas Castle is the Auld Keep. Over 600 years old, this remarkable building is stunningly unique, and is home to the Great Hall, a beautifully atmospheric stone-walled room that can hold up to 110 guests for your wedding ceremony.
Time to party
Dundas Castle can also offer couples their fixed structure Pavilion Marquee, which sits only a few yards away from the castle. This lovely space allows you to decorate it in any way you like, and can hold up to 180 guests for a wedding ceremony and 200 guests for your evening reception.
Sail me away
A few miles away from the main castle, we stayed the night in the adorable Boathouse. This wonderfully quaint building is the perfect wedding night or mini-moon spot, and has an amazing balcony overlooking Dundas Loch. Utterly romantic, it is the perfect romantic hideaway.
