SWD editor Natasha Radmehr visits one of the Isle of Skye’s most sought-after wedding venues.
It’s a Saturday night on the Isle of Skye and I’m sitting by the fire in the cosy lounge of Duisdale House Hotel beside a bride and groom who travelled all the way to Scotland from Michigan with their close family to tie the knot here.
They holidayed in Skye a few years ago and loved it so much that nowhere else compared as a wedding location. I’m not surprised.
This is my first time visiting, and though the landscape is familiar because of the many photographs I’ve seen, I’m still taken aback by its rugged beauty.
And Duisdale’s stunning location on the Sleat peninsula means I’m perfectly placed to take in the breathtaking views of the island, even when I’m indoors.
Duisdale House Hotel is one of three luxurious boutique hotels on Skye owned by the family-run Sonas Group.
Duisdale, along with sister hotels Toravaig and Skeabost, offers exclusivity to all couples who marry there, so you’ll have a beautiful slice of the island all to yourselves.
Though it’s a popular venue, regularly playing host to full weddings as well as evening shindigs for couples who have wed at nearby Eilean Donan Castle, Duisdale doesn’t remotely have the wedding factory feel often associated with busy hotels.
It’s cosy and intimate, with luxe-but-traditional interiors and friendly, attentive staff who go out of their way to help and chat to all guests, giving me the impression they’d go the extra mile to cater to your every wedding whim.
Standards are equally high where the food’s concerned; the award-winning chefs serve up innovative Scottish cuisine that’ll go down a storm with guests.
The garden is so gorgeous that an outdoor ceremony would be the obvious option here (though you can of course marry inside the hotel if the weather’s not on side).
Up to 60 guests can be catered for within the hotel itself, and if your numbers are bigger a marquee can be erected in the grounds.
Accommodation-wise, there are 18 stylish bedrooms, each of which has modern amenities and period features. There’s also a hot tub in the grounds – perfect for unwinding in post-wedding!
