SWD Visits… Aswanley

Some of Team SWD visit beautiful blank canvas wedding venue Aswanley for a fun-filled weekend…

It’s hard to describe Aswanley without dipping into clichés and platitudes, but it really is so postcard-pretty that as we drive up the winding road in the summer sunshine to the Huntly venue, it feels like we’re crossing over into a countryside dreamscape straight out of a Dodie Smith novel.

Four of the SWD editorial team are here, and as we sneak into the steading where a wedding is being set up for later, we get to see Aswanley in all its big day beauty.

A florist is dressing the wooden beams with foliage in the Fireplace Room, an airy space that can fit up to 100 ceremony guests, and we admire the beautiful Baronial fireplace in front of which a couple will exchange vows later in the day.

We move through to the Ballroom where the wedding breakfast and reception will happen. Festoon lighting gives this space a warm, welcoming glow, creating the perfect atmosphere for wedding celebrations.

Finally, we spill out onto the river terrace which has fantastic views of the Aberdeenshire countryside. Having your drinks reception here on a sunny day would be fabulous, and you could even tie the knot here if you fancy an al fresco ceremony.

COSY COTTAGE…

Over the weekend we spend at Aswanley, we bed down in the luxe country cottage Wester Park. This modern and spacious home is ideal for the bride and her ‘maids to relax and get ready for the big day in, with enough room to sleep six people.

We were also able to have a sneak peek at the super romantic Jocky’s Milne, a cute little cottage that makes the perfect honeymooners’ hideaway for you and your new spouse.

RUN AWAY WITH ME…

On our final day at the cottage, the Aswanley team take us on an off-road drive to a beautiful wildflower-filled field overlooking a stunning valley.

A little elopement hut is perched on the hill – it’s perfect for couples who want to say ‘I Do’ with minimum fuss in a truly breathtaking part of the world.

DID YOU KNOW? Unlike other blank canvas venues, you don’t have to hire tables, chairs, cutlery or glassware in yourself – Aswanley already has it covered!
