Sunny outdoor ceremony + tons of beautiful blooms at Broxmouth Park, Dunbar

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how gorgeous Scottish outdoor ceremonies are, when we get good enough weather to enjoy them. Our venues are often surrounded by lush green grounds, or sweeping views across the water; it really seems a shame not to take advantage of that, if you can!

If you’re swithering about whether or not to have alfresco I Dos then the gorgeous wedding of Selina and Jed, captured by Mirrorbox Photography, will surely persuade you. With a colour scheme of soft pinks and golds, and the grounds of Broxmouth Park in Dunbar looking resplendent in the sunshine, it’s one of the most gorgeous ceremony settings I’ve ever seen.

I work at a wedding venue so I didn’t find wedding planning too bad as I had a lot of contacts already. Helping to plan other people’s weddings for a living gave me an idea of what to expect!

We loved Broxmouth Park as soon as we arrived. It has massive grounds with lots of different scenery and an amazing backdrop for an outdoor wedding ceremony. It also had several cottages in the grounds so there was enough space for the whole wedding party to stay.

We had lots of pink, cream and greenery in our décor. On the ceremony table we had small arrangements with gold vases.

The bridesmaids had blush pink and cream flowers to match their blush pink dresses and I then had darker pinks and creams.

In the marquee we had lots of flowers with gold candle holders and vases at the base of the arrangements. Our favours were miniatures of Edinburgh gin which we got in elderflower (gold) and raspberry (pink) flavours.

I am quite tall and we were having an outdoor ceremony on grass so I went for flat ballet pumps. I found them online and the style was called ‘Selina’ so I thought it was fate.

The ceremony was the highlight of my day. I have seen a lot of ceremonies at work. Humanist weddings always stood out to me as being the most personal.

We chose Tim Maguire as our celebrant and he was wonderful. We wrote the ceremony ourselves which really made us think about why we were getting married.

Tim delivered the ceremony wonderfully and made everyone laugh and cry!

We had three speeches and they were all great.

My dad’s made me cry and the best man’s was so funny. Jed’s was very good even though he had written it the day before! He had everyone in the room crying.

We had Tom Odell’s Grow Old with Me as our first dance song. We don’t have a song as such but we both liked that one. It also wasn’t a common first dance song which we liked.

We had such a great night at the reception! The band were great and took requests, and we had singing waiters during dinner.

My mum booked them and I was hesitant as I thought they might be cheesy, but they were brilliant!
