I’m obviously biased, but I think Scotland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world to elope to.
With our stunning landscapes, an array of cosy and intimate wedding venues and the convenience of being legally permitted to marry pretty much anywhere, whether that’s up a mountain or by the shore of a loch, couples who marry here can plan a wedding that is truly unique and personal to them.
Whether you plan to elope to Scotland from overseas, or you already live here and just want your day to be a celebration for the two of you, we’ve curated a list of the very best intimate wedding venues in Scotland that are just perfect for small weddings and elopements.

Love the great outdoors? Aswanley, situated on the border of Aberdeenshire and Morayshire, is the one for you. With the wild backdrop of the Grampian Highlands and Ben Rinnes beyond, it’s an incredible location for romantic elopements.
For the smallest of weddings, escape into the hills to the newly built Shepherd’s Hut. Designed for the most intimate weddings (your guest list can’t exceed eight!), this cosy haven has a natural pine interior and wood burning stove, making it a truly special setting to exchange vows.
Elopement packages at Aswanley include your wedding in the hut, four-wheel-drive transport and a three-night stay in Jocky Milne’s Croft, an idyllic honeymooners’ hideaway tucked away on Aswanley’s estate.
Fancy eloping to a venue with a romantic backstory? Barnbougle Castle, a hidden gem just seven miles west of Edinburgh, is an ancient knightly fortress that was restored by the newlywed 5th Earl of Rosebery and his wife Hannah as a private retreat. Never opened to the public, it remains as if they had just stepped out.
Surrounded by 2,000 acres of parkland, private beaches and enchanting woods, with its banqueting hall, minstrels’ gallery and grand spiral staircase, this beautiful venue can play host both to grand and intimate celebrations.
Say ‘I do’ in the gilded Scottish Library, take a stroll on the seaside Terrace, then sip on bespoke cocktails to begin married life in style.

Situated in Weem, Aberfeldy, Castle Menzies is a romantic Renaissance castle with plenty of options for couples seeking to elope.
Its most iconic room for wedding ceremonies is The Lang Garret, a rustic space with exposed beams and stone walls, which has been playing host to weddings for just shy of 500 years.
Alternatively, you could marry outside in the walled garden; in the atmospheric Wine Store (which can hold up to 12 people); or in the 16th-century Old Kitchen, which has ancient flagstones, a magnificent fireplace and a large dining table where up to 18 people can sit down to a sumptuous banquet from one of the castle’s hand-selected caterers. The choice is yours!
HETLAND HALL HOTEL
If you love the tradition of eloping to Gretna Green but want a venue that oozes class, take a look at the elegant Hetland Hall Hotel.
Located just minutes from Gretna Green in Dumfries and Galloway, this countryside venue has beautiful private parkland and sweeping views of the Solway Firth. It’s just as gorgeous inside too, thanks to recent refurbishments in which the interiors have been modernised while retaining the original charm and character of the house.
Hold your ceremony within the gardens or in the hotel itself, then settle down for a private meal of the finest local produce. Come evening, you can stay in the luxurious Penthouse Suite.
LOGIE COUNTRY HOUSE
Logie Country House is a beautiful, award-winning castle wedding venue and estate that dates back to the 1680s and has the rolling hills of Aberdeenshire as its backdrop.
Whether it’s just the two of you or you want to have your friends and family there too, this venue is the perfect place to get married. The house can sleep 45 guests in 15 bedrooms and is exclusively yours for up to three days and nights.
The dining room is perfect for a more intimate wedding (larger parties can use the ballroom, which has space for up to 160 day guests). And you’ll love being able to relax post-wedding at the indoor pool, or in the outdoor hot tubs in the courtyard!
DUISDALE HOUSE HOTEL
Located on the Sleat peninsula on the Isle of Skye, this boutique hotel boasts a stunning location and cosier-than-cosy interiors, making it perfect for an intimate wedding.
EILEAN DONAN CASTLE
One of Scotland’s most famous castles, Eilean Donan sits at the point where three sea lochs meet in the western Highlands of Scotland. Elopers flock here – and when you see it, you’ll understand why.
Love art? More than 14,000 antiques and artworks can be found in this Braemar-based hotel. Its private dining room (seating up to 12), has croft-inspired interiors and a chandelier designed by Indian artist Subodh Gupta.
