One of the best feelings in the world is when a reader gets in touch to say they couldn’t have planned their wedding without Scottish Wedding Directory.
Because really, that’s why we’re here.
It’s our job to equip you with the know-how, inspiration, real experiences and expert advice you need to confidently plan your perfect day. If we’ve made any part of that process easier for you then I’m delighted!
If you’re new to wedding planning or you live outside of Scotland, you might not realise that in addition to this website and our social channels, SWD also produces two gorgeous glossy print magazines, Scottish Wedding Directory and Scottish Wedding Venues.
If you didn’t pick up a copy in 2017, here are some of my personal highlights from the past year. Subscribe in 2018 to make sure you don’t miss out!
SCOTTISH WEDDING DIRECTORY: WINTER 2017
Women are bombarded with messages about losing weight and getting fit every January as it is, and that only intensifies if they’re planning a wedding.
With that in mind, our Winter 2017 issue (which came out in January last year) was a celebration of all body shapes.
Writer Pauline Kirby (below right) wrote powerfully about why she shunned the big day diet, stating: “Our value and our uniqueness and our capacity for love are not measured in stones and pounds. We can have meaningful relationships and beautiful weddings just exactly as we are; all of us, whatever our size.”
(Psst: we also did a series of blog posts about body confidence.)

We also invited four real brides-to-be to model wedding dresses specially chosen for them by some of Scotland’s top bridal boutiques including Anne Priscilla Bridal, Sophia Grace Couture and Ivory Whites. Didn’t they look beautiful?
SCOTTISH WEDDING DIRECTORY: SPRING 2017
We pack every issue full of great ideas, of course, but this year’s Spring issue was positively overflowing with inspo.
Four wedding industry insiders shared their own wedding days with us; how cool is this David Bowie table name from wedding planner Katy Henderson’s big day at Mansfield Traquair?

This issue also came with a free Real Life Weddings magazine, and the editorial team fell hard for real bride Sally’s amazing wedding style. (Hubby David looked smashing too, obv.)

We also challenged three Scottish wedding co-ordinators to style a blank canvas venue in three different ways to show you how easily the look of a venue can be switched up.
This watercolour theme, as styled by Laurel Tree Events, was so dreamy.
SCOTTISH WEDDING DIRECTORY: SUMMER 2017
Grooms are often neglected by wedding magazines, but not SWD! Our Summer issue featured a bumper grooms’ section filled with outfit inspo, stag ideas and a gift guide.

The Summer issue also saw us make our annual pilgrimage to White Gallery London to report on the brand new 2018 bridalwear collections.
SCOTISH WEDDING DIRECTORY: AUTUMN 2017
Our final issue of 2017 was all about your best gals: the bridesmaids!
Digital editor Steph has been a bridesmaid three times, so she shared her best advice for anyone taking on this role (“Be that little angel on the bride’s shoulder that tells her everything is going to be ok. Nervous as hell? Don’t show it. Hold it together for her. Make sure you tell her how amazing she looks at least once an hour.”)
We also packed this issue full of bridesmaid dress inspo and got a bit obsessed with these embellished stunners from new designer Motee Maids.
In our Scottish Wedding Venues magazine, we shone a spotlight on some of Scotland’s best wedding venues for foodies.
Plus, we interviewed couples for Scottish Wedding Directory who got really creative with their wedding meals, including Gillian and Kenny, who went for an Alice in Wonderland inspired afternoon tea party!

Finally, I have to share an image with you from a shoot we did with Scottish Ballet principal ballerina Bethany Kingsley-Garner, who was also in the midst of planning her own wedding.
Bethany modelled an array of beautiful gowns from Scottish wedding dress boutiques and the images, shot by Laura A Tiliman Photography, totally blew me away.
Below is my fave shot of the year, starring a blush pink wedding dress from Alison Kirk Bridal.
