For the new Autumn issue of Scottish Wedding Directory magazine, we asked Scottish wedding photographers to send in one of the best images they’ve taken this year.
As soon as I saw the photo sent in by photographer Alex Martin of Amy and Nick’s wedding, I knew immediately that I had to see more. The image was gorgeous, and so was bride Amy, who looked sensational in her Martina Liana dress.
The couple had a Scottish Borders marquee wedding in May (after a church ceremony), and had the perfect weather for it.
Bride Amy talks us through the big day…
We got married in Wilton Church, which is a beautiful big church in Hawick. Nick’s Grandpa is an elder at this church and we have other family members who have been married there so that made it personal to us.
The wedding breakfast and reception was held in a marquee at Nick’s parents’ house in a large field and we had a beautiful sunny day so everyone was able to sit outside on picnic benches. We had around 100 people during the day and then a further 100 at night.
We loved that the wedding breakfast and reception was at Nick’s parents’ house and this obviously made it very personal to us. We did the decorating of the marquee ourselves and we were so pleased with how it all turned out and how the marquee looked.
We didn’t have a specific theme (or even a specific colour scheme), but our bridesmaids were in navy and the flowers were pink peonies and eucalyptus which we thought worked really well together as colours.
One of my favourite things about the wedding décor was our flower wall. We laid white pebbles to create a walkway to it and had a pink and cream hydrangea flower wall at the end for our guests to take photos and everyone seemed to love taking photos there.
We chose everything for the décor of the marquee ourselves and it was very personal to us. We are both very family-orientated people so what mattered most to us was having everyone there with us to celebrate our big day.
I am quite a stressy person so there were definitely times that I found wedding planning overwhelming! I think in particular with regard to our vision for the marquee coming together, it was sometimes quite hard to visualise what it was all going to look like. But it all worked out well on the day!
In hindsight, I wish I could tell myself that everything would work out and to try not to stress about minor little things!
We had a lovely week after the wedding where we went away for our minimoon and then had a spa day at the end of the week so we were still on a high the week after. We didn’t go on our honeymoon to the Maldives until September so we still had that to look forward to!
