We chat to wedding shoe designer Ruth Shaw, founder of Harriet Wilde

Ruth Shaw, founder and director of Harriet Wilde, chats to us about her passion and commitment to designing stylish, premium bridal shoes!

How did you first get into designing shoes?

Passion and utter adoration for shoes combined with my own wedding. I searched high and low for a stylish pair of designer bridal shoes – you could find bridal styles by high-end designers but they were main range styles made in satin, not specifically designed as bridal shoes.

Harriet Wilde shoes are bridal shoes designed by women for women! We consider so many aspects in our design process – comfort, style, material, toe shape and heel height – all integral to the requirements of a bride.

What do you love about designing wedding shoes?

Wedding shoes are so special; the materials and details need to be carefully considered. I have been designing wedding shoes for 10 years and I’ve learnt so much about what’s important for brides.

Where do you find inspiration for your bridal shoes?

Fashion and bridal trends. I personally love flowers and also find these a huge inspiration – they play such a key role in the wedding, too. It’s great to have styles such as ‘Peony’ and ‘Dahlia’ as many brides have these flowers in their bouquets.

How would you describe the Harriet Wilde brand and who is the Harriet Wilde bride?

Elegant and stylish designer wedding shoes, each pair expertly handcrafted in Spain and hand-finished in London. Our bride wants premium product and has style.

Tell us about your bespoke service…

We work with our clients to create bespoke shoes! Any shoes from our main range can be made in another colour, we can make bespoke embellishments and any of our embellishments are interchangeable within our range.

Have you a favourite shoe you have designed over the years?

We have just created a Swarovski version of our ‘Arabella’ sandal. It’s encrusted with over 1,000 crystals, each attached by hand in our artisan factory in Spain.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a shoe designer?

I’ll always be a shoe designer!

Harriet Wilde is stocked in Scotland at Arabesque, Perth, Dream Brides Irvine, and Eleganza Sposa, Glasgow.
