When we heard that a bride had chosen her wedding dress from one of our mag’s front covers, we just had to see it!
And of course, we were not disappointed when we saw Kimberley and Colin’s beautiful wedding day at Brig o’ Doon, Ayr. The day had a lovely rustic feel to it, while still being completely tailored to the personality of the couple.
Kimberley tells us about her big day in her own words, captured by Duke Photography…
“We met in Maggie Mays, Glasgow in 2010 and dated for a while, but didn’t actually get together until 2014.
In 2010 I was a student and wanted to party. Colin jokes that when I was done having fun I got back in touch.
Colin proposed at the bells on 1st January 2016 in our flat. We had been out for dinner and I was in my pyjama bottoms and one of Col’s hoodies after being soaked by the rain!
My Uncle David is a minister and we were over the moon that he conducted the religious ceremony.
The vows are extremely important so it was really special having someone we know marry us.
We wanted our wedding to reflect us. We had a mix of modern, traditional and rustic touches.
We did not want to be influenced by what was ‘in’.
I saw a two-piece on the front cover of SWD that I loved, but I never thought I would have the confidence to wear it.
I tried on some lovely dresses, but none were the one.
I mentioned the two-piece to Ashleigh from Anne Priscilla.
She said she had the exact one from the SWD cover and convinced me to try it on…and I loved it!
My mum made my veil and favours; my dad sourced wooden logs for part of the centrepieces; my uncle married us; my friend played piano; another filmed the wedding; and another did my hair!
Our friends had The Riffreshers at their wedding and they were fantastic so we booked them immediately.
We said from the start that we wanted a party vibe and that is what we had.
To be honest, it was only after the first dance I fully relaxed and had the time of my life.
