Retro wedding at Hill of Tarvit Mansion and The Old Manor Hotel, Fife

Lauren and Roman chose two beautiful Fife venues for their wedding – tying the knot at Hill of Tarvit Mansion and hosting their reception at The Old Manor Hotel, near where Lauren grew up.

The couple put together their big day in just six months to ensure all their loved ones could be there – talk about organised!

We chatted to Lauren about all the gorgeous details and just how full-on it really was planning a wedding so quickly…

“Roman and I met by accident eight years ago. I was working in Dublin at the time and decided to stay over for the weekend.

Roman had been out with his work mates and we bumped into each other in a local bar. I thought I had spilled his drink so offered to buy him one to say sorry.

We’ve been together pretty much ever since!

When we got engaged at Christmas 2016, we weren’t fussed about setting a date right away.

But my sister Linsey lives in Boston, and when she said she was coming home for a holiday in summer 2017, we checked our ceremony and reception venues and both had availability for those weeks –so we decided to organise our wedding in six months!

When we were planning, we discovered that the date, the 28th July, was the same that Roman moved over from Ireland to be with me in Edinburgh.

It would be four years to the day since I ‘stole him’ over to Scotland.

Planning our wedding in six months was challenging, but it helped us to focus on the things that mattered most.

I manage projects as part of my day job but I was unprepared for the number of decisions we had to make.

Luckily Roman is quite decisive so it was a great combination. I did the research and we chose the key aspects together.

Our ceremony was very special to us. We chose to do a hand-binding which involved us crossing our wrists while Roman’s dad and my stepdad placed two pieces of tartan over our hands.

We also passed our wedding rings from guest to guest so they could say a blessing, a prayer or make a wish for the bride and groom. Everyone had real fun with it.

We decided to have our reception at the Old Manor Hotel – it’s in the village where I grew up and my mum got remarried there too.

It was built as a private residence and was converted to a hotel in 1949.

The views out across the Firth of Forth are amazing; it’s all the backdrop you need (minimal decoration required!).

From the start, Roman and I have been the best of friends. We’ve been there for each through the good times and the bad. We just love each other to bits.

We didn’t think that getting married would change things between us, but it has.

It’s difficult to describe what’s different or what the best thing is. It just feels like a better version of us!
