Intimate country house wedding day at Tor Na Coille, Banchory
Oh, we do love a beautiful wedding! We speak to Adam and Hannah on their intimate autumnal wedding day at Tor Na Coille.
When Adam moved into the spare room of the flat Hannah was living in, the pair clicked instantly – and five years later, they were engaged!
“We were visiting my parents for a long weekend,” recalls Hannah. “It was a beautifully sunny day so we went on a cliff-top walk, where Adam got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him.”
Hannah and Adam visited lots of venues in the quest to find the perfect place for their wedding, with their 10th visit finally proving a charm.
“Tor Na Coille was the first venue that had all the elements we were looking for,” explains Adam. It was also the perfect size for their intimate wedding party of 37!
Although they were married in Scotland, the couple were actually living in London at the time of planning their wedding.
Luckily, they had the help of family and friends to make the process easier, and a fantastic venue team on hand, too.
“Craig at Tor Na Coille was amazing throughout the planning and on the day itself, ensuring everything went smoothly,” says Hannah.
The happy pair decided not to set a formal theme but added loads of personality to their day with DIY details, including their self-designed wedding stationery!
They even collaborated to bake their own cake, with Adam creating the adorable penguin toppers by hand. Comprising layers of salted caramel shortbread, Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle, it took two days to make from scratch.
The personal touches didn’t end there. Hannah customised her House of Mooshki wedding dress and Adam wore his great grandfather’s pocketwatch to complete his Charles Tyrwhitt suit.
They also both wrote their own vows and sent them to their registrar separately.
“We didn’t know what each other had written, but our vows turned out to be quite similar and complemented each other perfectly,” beams Adam.
After a delicious meal and an “emotional rollercoaster” of a speech from the groom, everyone kept the party going into the night (“We achieved our goal to never have an empty dancefloor!”).
But both bride and groom agree that their favourite thing about their day was it being small enough that they could spend time with every guest. Aww!
