Cool waterside wedding with amazing flowers at The Cruin, Loch Lomond

Super-stylish couple Laura and Barry enjoyed a picture-perfect day at their Loch Lomond wedding. I just love the colour combinations, and that leather jacket is unreal!

“After seven years together, Barry proposed to me on an empty beach on the Isle of Lewis in May 2016.

When it came to wedding planning, we just really wanted everyone to have a great time so we actually booked our date based on the availability of our band, Ernest!

Bridal dress shopping didn’t go great to begin with, but luckily my mum, sister and mother-in-law were there to make me feel a million dollars.

When I walked out of the changing room, their reaction to my dress made my decision easy. I loved its high neckline, corset detailing, ethereal blush underlay and lace layers.

Barry had really specific ideas on what he wanted to wear, so he and his best man ended up with bespoke tweed kilt attire from Stewart Highland.

Barry asked for the buttonhole thread on his jacket to be in mine, his mum and gran’s favourite colours, and had the number of buttons correspond to the wedding date, which were such thoughtful touches.

We wanted our day to be really Scottish and introduced lots of wee touches related to the Outer Hebrides, where we got engaged. We had Isle of Harris Gin bottle centrepieces, Isle of Skye candles, Stornoway black pudding and Hebridean sea salt caramel on the menu.

We went for a cheese tower instead of a cake, which went down a treat with guests.

Laura at Mood Flowers created the most beautiful flowers for the day; she captured the style perfectly. We went for a loose bouquet of purple, lilac and blush pink, with lots of greenery and a couple of big burgundy peonies
to make it all pop.

Saying our vows was the most special part of our wedding. It genuinely felt like a dream – Loch Lomond was so beautiful in the sunshine. Our ceremony was very relaxed, inclusive and heartfelt.

The catering was done by our venue, The Cruin, and was out of this world! We’re both really into good food so we tried not to get bogged down in what standard options we should be including. So many guests told us it was the best wedding meal they’ve ever had!

Our talented friend played guitar during the drinks reception and we also picked band Ernest to make sure we had a full dancefloor all night – they didn’t disappoint! The whole atmosphere was amazing; it just went far too quickly.

Being married feels the same really! We’re about to head off to Sydney for two years, something we knew was in the pipeline during our wedding but decided not to mention as we just wanted our day to be full of joy.

It’s going to be such an adventure and a nice start to married life.

My advice to brides and grooms-to-be would have to be that happy guests make your day! Our priority was supplying good food, music and plenty of drinks so that the rest was up to them!”
