When Carly and Darryn were looking for a wedding venue, they wanted to get married somewhere in their hometown. Which is lucky, because their hometown contains one of Scotland’s most majestic locations – Dunnet Head Lighthouse, which sits at the most northerly point in Scotland!
The couple got married outside the lighthouse on a beautiful summer’s day, gorgeously shot by SDM Photography.

“Darryn and I met at work. We were great friends for two years before he took the plunge to ask me out.
We fell madly in love with each other and after a few years, he asked me to marry him in Edinburgh.
We were there for the Christmas markets, so it made it even more magical.
When we were looking for a venue in our small town, it was important to us that we found something a little different.
We had a day off and decided to go out for an adventure to see what we could find and low and behold, we found the most perfect lighthouse sitting on the edge of a cliff. It had a rustic vibe and was exactly what we were looking for.
We had around 120 guests during the day. It was very important to us that our family and friends were there and that they all felt relaxed and comfortable.
The highlight of our day was our ceremony. Angus Mackay was our celebrant, and he tailored everything as we requested, and made the ceremony unique and personal to us.
He was so engaging with everyone involved, it couldn’t have gone any better.
We chose this beautiful venue because firstly it’s the most Northernly point in Britain and secondly because it’s the most stunning place we have both been to.
It was a brave decision though being local to the area we are aware of the elements we face in Scotland, but thankfully everything turned out fantastic and there wasn’t a breath of wind.
The most challenging thing about getting married in my opinion is all the unnecessary pressure people put on you.
Try to enjoy the experience, I would say I’m a natural relaxed person and I even fell for the pressure to have a big over the top wedding; just do you.
We have had the most magical day and the best thing about being married is the commitment that we have made to each other – there’s no bond in life that comes close.”
