Couple Sarah and Ally wanted to create a wedding day that looked beautiful, but that was also a relaxed enjoyable celebration for themselves and their wedding guests.
What they came up with was a beautiful day at the bohemian-luxe Cambo Estate, only a short drive from St Andrews. Filled with good music, good food, and beautiful country blooms, the pair pulled off a truly lovely wedding day.

Our first date involved quite a few drinks and a lot of laughs – and it’s been the same ever since. We genuinely enjoy spending time together, have the same sense of humour and are both huge foodies! We had previously spoken about marriage and knew it was something we both wanted to do, but it was still a surprise when Ally proposed during a long weekend in Berlin in May 2017.
I called my four bridesmaids from Berlin to tell them we had got engaged and asked them [to be my bridesmaids] right there and then. I gave them each a gift on the day of the wedding: a personalised Vaseline and a T-shirt from the Etsy store Literary Emporium featuring a feminist quote from classic literature. Ally bought his three-piece suit from Next – and he really wants me to tell you that his shopping trip took less than an hour!
Cambo House was the first venue we went to visit and we fell head over heels in love right away. The house and estate is incredible, and the team gave us so much freedom to choose how we wanted the weekend to look. We also loved that Cambo allowed us to make the wedding BYOB, which our guests really enjoyed! We had also been to so many weddings where the food has been pretty forgettable and we were determined that wouldn’t be the case for us. Thankfully, our caterer choice of Bespoke AwB turned out to be an inspired one. A year on and some of our guests are still talking about the mashed potato!
For the reception we had a band called The Socials, who I had found online. I picked them because they had Psycho Killer by Talking Heads on their playlist, which is one of our favourite songs. They were phenomenal and had everyone dancing all night. For our wedding, we quickly worked out what was important to us (food, venue and music) and what we were more laid back about (themes, flowers, stationery). This allowed us to spend our budget wisely.
After the wedding, Ally and I drove up to a small cottage in Aberfeldy and spent a couple of days relaxing, recuperating and talking about the wedding (as well as eating and white water rafting!).
