Having previously worked as an events co-ordinator, Claire had a pretty good idea of how to handle wedding prep.
Claire and Dan met through mutual friends on a night out in Glasgow and after nearly six years Dan proposed on Bamburgh Beach with the help of their dog Bertie (aww!).
Claire had always loved Gilmerton House and was keen to visit.
“We weren’t sure that we would be able to get married there, given that you can only have 60 day guests, but we both fell in love with the house along with its stunning grounds as soon as we saw it,” she remembers.
With the date set, they forged ahead with the other fun parts of wedding planning.
They didn’t have a particular theme but opted for a navy and powder blue palette and had touches of the shades in everything from the flowers to the stationery.
“Having a colour scheme really helped both the planning process and the look of the wedding on the day,” tips Claire.
Choosing her dress was the bride’s favourite aspect of planning.
“It was incredible getting to try on so many beautiful dresses and doing that with my friends and mum made it all the more special,” she smiles.
Claire kept her bridal shoes on message, tying her Jimmy Choo Sparkly Blues in with the overall scheme (commitment to a theme has never been so glam!).
Neither Claire or Dan are religious so they chose a personal humanist ceremony.
“The great thing is you get to write most of the ceremony yourselves,” says Claire.
“However, we decided to keep the vows traditional. It was quite an emotional moment delivering them, especially as I am not a great public speaker.
“Focusing on Dan certainly helped. The ceremony was beautiful, funny and fitted us perfectly.”
The couple kicked off the evening reception dancing to a slowed down version of George Ezra’s Paradise.
“Dan chose this song as we love his music and felt it really suited us,” says Claire.
Then all their guests joined in for a proper party atmosphere.
“No one left the dance floor,” she says.
“We had the best night and very sore feet afterwards. It was great being able to celebrate with all our friends and family.”
