I know Ashley from her role as wedding co-ordinator at the beautiful Mercure Barony Castle, so when she told me she was getting married in a venue with a very different style to Barony, I was excited to see how it was going to turn out. When it comes to a wedding planner tying the knot themselves, there is a lot of pressure on them to make it amazing – it’s their job, after all. But when I saw the photos from her big day, it was clear that Ashley had done her trade proud by creating a very pretty, laid-back and cool wedding – not to mention looking fabulous while doing it!
Hear about Angus and Ashley’s big day from the bride’s point of view…
I enjoyed my wedding morning just being with the girls, everyone was so calm and chilled out – we had such a laugh!
The most emotional part of the day for me was when my dad came into collect me and when I saw Angus waiting on me at the top of the aisle.
As the venue is a converted barn we stuck with that theme; everything was very rustic and we had loads of lovely, pastel flowers throughout the venue. We used a lot of crates, milk bottles, milk churns and little metal buckets to dress the venue – it all came together very well! Angus and I are both very laid back so we wanted the whole day to be informal and fun.
During our first dance my four year old nephew decided to come and sit on my train. We just continued the dance and he got dragged about the dance floor! The whole day was just amazing, we had so much fun.
I am a wedding planner so I didn’t find it challenging at all, I really enjoyed the planning process. My advice to other couples would be to make sure they are organised from the beginning – create your guest list, set your budget and book your venue then take it from there! As long as you are organised and don’t let other people’s opinions affect your choices you will be fine!
Married life is great – pretty much the same, just a different surname and a more solid commitment to each other.
