New York-inspired DIY Scottish wedding at Rowallan Castle, Ayrshire

Alan and Jennifer wanted the freedom to build their wedding day exactly as they’d always dreamed, and Rowallan Castle was the perfect place for them to create their vision!

The couple got engaged in New York (the dream!) so they wanted to have a NYC thread running through the day – we love the sound of their cocktails themed around the city.

Captured beautifully by Jarvie and Jones Photography, read all about bride Jennifer’s special day in her own words…

“Alan and I met on a night out in Aberdeen 13 years ago. We clicked straight away. It was so easy for us to be together and feel ourselves that I just knew this was someone I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

From the moment we stepped inside Rowallan Castle, we knew. The majority of the wedding theme was DIY; another selling point of the venue was that we had the freedom to really make the day our own.

We wanted to bring New York, where we got engaged, into the day so the tables were all named after places there.

Dress shopping was lots of fun, made even better by the fact that one of my bridesmaids was home from Australia at the time so we could all go together.

Myself, Alan, our family and bridal party all stayed the night before the wedding. The girls relaxed and drank champagne, the boys played golf, then we all had a barbecue.

I think having that evening really helped set the tone for the day itself.

It was very emotional as my stepfather walked me down the aisle and I saw Alan at the end welling up.

It was such a wonderful and happy feeling to be walking towards the man I love so that I could spend the rest of my life with him.

During the father of the bride speech, my stepfather presented us with our very own framed tartan, a bespoke creation from Tartan Venture, which was named after our surname and reflected the colours of Alan’s favourite football team.

The gift was to act as a tribute to the unification of two families. It was a truly unique gift and one which we were blown away by.

We had a cocktail hour, which included three New York themed cocktails: Manhattan, Cosmopolitan and Long Island Iced Tea.

Everyone was up dancing the whole night and the reception cocktails really helped kickstart the party!

We went on a mini-moon to Barcelona straight after the wedding.

We were planning to go on a longer honeymoon, but may have to postpone this as I am now pregnant!

Being married has given us a lot more strength as a team and has built an even stronger connection between us, which we never realised could get stronger than before.
