A chance meeting in the pub after the Scotland game was all it took for Scottish chart-topper Michelle McManus to find her man. “When I met Jeff it all just fell into place,” she says. “We were only together six months before we were engaged.”
Working in the entertainment industry, privacy was naturally a top priority for Michelle when planning the wedding.
At first they considered tying the knot abroad, but the couple are very patriotic and Jeff struck upon the idea of taking their family and friends into the Highlands for their “I do’s”.
Visiting The West Highland Hotel in Mallaig, they were blown away by the owners’ commitment to ensuring their wedding weekend would be totally private. “They were incredible,” smiles Michelle. “We wouldn’t have had the wedding we did without them. No one had a clue where we were getting married.”
With the venue decided and a Scotrail train carriage secured to transport guests north, Michelle set out to find her dream dress. Following a recommendation from a pal she booked an appointment with June Brides Glasgow and within 30 minutes had ordered her gown.
The singer wanted to tweak the design, so under the expert advice of Carol at the boutique she ordered extra diamante detailing and her dressmaker Trisha used material from the lining to craft her beautiful sleeves.
The couple tied the knot in a traditional Catholic ceremony at St Mary and St Finnan Church at Glenfinnan on the edge of Loch Shiel. Michelle walked down the aisle to Will Ye Go Lassie Go and emotions were running high. “It was only my family and closest friends and they were all really happy I had found this lovely guy and had fallen head over heels,” she says.
The couple’s traditional décor included thistles and personalised blackboards crafted by Michelle’s artist sister.
After the ceremony Michelle and Jeff headed to the beach for some gorgeous wedding shots before joining their guests.
They kicked off the evening dancing their first dance to Máire Brennan’s You’re the One and the festivities continued throughout the Sunday with more live music and karaoke.
Looking back, the newlyweds are still delighted they pulled off the wedding they wanted.
“Becoming Mrs Nimmo and the fact I can look back and say that was the happiest weekend of my life is definitely the highlight,” smiles Michelle.
