Homemade décor details and plenty of personal touches were the order of service at Lisa and Iain’s gorgeous lilac and silver glitter themed wedding.
Bride Lisa tells us how a chance meeting changed her life plans for good and led her to marrying her Mr Right…
When we first met, I was in the middle of moving to Australia for a year’s working visa. I had already bought it, flights were booked and I’d put my flat up for rent and sold my car. Then I met Iain.
I knew after only a few weeks that I wanted to stay at home and be with him as why would I want to flee the country when I felt so strongly about someone, but I kept it to myself for a couple of months.
My brother texted me, “You never know, this could be the guy you end up marrying”, and I can’t believe he was right! My dad always used to say it was fate that brought us together and I truly believe that.
I always had my eye on Hotel Colessio in Stirling, even before we were engaged.
As soon as we walked in and I saw the ballroom with the large hanging chandeliers and the mirrored feature wall, I instantly knew that this was where I wanted to get married.
The venue was very glam and it was perfect for us. A lot of people said the venue was very ‘me’ because I love a lot of sparkle!
I loved our humanist ceremony. It told our story of how we met and had a lot of personal mentions in it – a bit of fun and laughter and also very romantic words.
We were asked to write down why we wanted to marry each other and kept this a surprise until the big day.
Our brother-in-law Dale Gormley also did a surprise reading that he wrote about us. It was such a nice and emotional surprise.
We had a hand-fasting during our ceremony to officially tie the knot. Everyone said it was so nice and unique.
A lot of my décor was homemade so it was nice to use a bit of my creativity to make our day perfect.
We had planned all along that we weren’t doing any speeches as we aren’t traditional at all. We just love our food so we thought the sooner we all eat the better.
But we did a receiving line before the wedding breakfast so we could personally thank everyone for coming and sharing our day with us.
Iain surprised us all though and stood up to do a short speech.
I was so proud of him and how brave he was. His words were lovely, finishing with a toast to only me which I thought was really kind and thoughtful.
Our first dance, sang by our best friend Gordon, was She is Love by Oasis, which was personal to us. We didn’t want something that would come up as a google search suggestion.
We wanted something different that meant a lot to us and wasn’t the bog standard choice. Plus I have a love for Noel Gallagher so he had to feature somewhere throughout the day!
We also had a crisp buffet in the evening as we LOVE crisps. We filled jars with all our favourite snacks and again, went against the traditional candy cart/sweet buffet and made up our own Pick n Mix!
Being married is the best feeling in the world. We both said that we just felt like we fell in love all over again.
It definitely feels different and I just have so much more love for Iain.
