How to shop for your dream wedding dress at Kudos Bridal Dunfermline

From biggest 2019 bridal trends, the need-to-know designers and who you should bring wedding dress shopping, here’s the expert advice from Kudos Bridal Dunfermline.

Kudos bridal first opened their doors in Edinburgh back in 2007. As the business grew and our owner, Jackie, found herself wanting to be based closer to home it was the next step to open a second store in Fife.

Our Dunfermline boutique has been up and running since 2011 and this month we are celebrating our second year in our gorgeous premises on East Port Street, right in the heart of the town.

We’re definitely a little hidden gem and we offer fantastic customer service along side an amazing selection of bridal gowns.

We have a great selection at our Dunfermline boutique, from Essense of Australia and Wendy Makin to Blue by Enzoani and True Bride’s Brighton Belle collection, there’s something for everyone!

Our newest arrivals, Aire Barcelona and Aire Beach, have had us very excited recently. We started off as the only stockist in Scotland and it has been amazing to see the reception they’ve been receiving from our brides so far. We cannot wait to see the brand grow!

Usually we recommend looking for your dress between nine months to a year before the big day. When you factor in order times and alterations, giving yourself enough time can make the entire process less stressful and more enjoyable.

When it comes to appointments, our best recommendation is to keep your group small. Two or three of the people closest to you will keep you from getting confused by others’ opinions. It also makes it more of a surprise for everyone at the other end!

The most important thing to keep in mind when searching for your dress is what makes you feel comfortable. Your venue, time of year and preferred fabric may all play a part in your decision, but we always preach that comfort is key!

Clean cuts and plainer styles are definitely making a resurgence. After two royal weddings this year its clear to see that classic elegance is the way to go!

We’ve seen a rise already in the number of our brides asking for materials like mikado and crepe in a variety of shapes and styles.

Another thing to keep your eye on is sheer detailing. From illusion bodices and cut-out sides our designers have been focusing on this in a big way. It may not be for everyone, but we’ve been seeing that brides are getting braver already!

From belts to boleros and everything in between you’re rather spoiled for choice! A removable topper can transform any gown from ‘church-wedding’ to ‘party dress’ in seconds.

Strapless dresses can be adapted with detachable straps and simply changing your hairstyle for the evening can work wonders.

We host events every few months and it’s something that we always look forward to. From accessory events to trunk shows, we always have something in the works.

Our accessory events are always busy. Our designers provide us with extra pieces that we don’t usually stock in store and it’s a great way to find something a little different to finish off your bridal look. We’re already planning our next one for the spring so keep a lookout for a date!

Some of our favourite events are trunk shows. Usually a designer will send us in their entire collection for one day only so, if you’re liking a particular style, it’s a great way to see them all in one place.

Our Essense of Australia shows, though, are some of the most exciting. We receive tester dresses that haven’t even made it to production yet – perfect for a bride who is looking to be a little more fashion-forward.

You may even end up with a one-off dress if the gown you order on the day doesn’t make the collection!

My favourite celebrity wedding gown has to be Miranda Kerr’s custom Dior masterpiece (pictured above) from last year. It was definitely ahead of the game design-wise, but so timelessly elegant at the same time.

The structured satin and appliqued skirt was to die for… and it doesn’t hurt that it was designed by the first woman to lead Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri!

I just love seeing a brides’ face light up when she finds her dress. It’s a moment that I always love being a part of, even if it does make me quite emotional at times!
