Each week we’re asking a different Scottish make-up artist or hair stylist to let us in on the one hero beauty product that’s always in their kit.
This week it’s the turn of Jen from Jen C Make Up. Here’s what she says:
HOW DID YOU BECOME A MAKE-UP ARTIST?
“I got in to the make-up Industry when I was 17 and started my HND at Clydebank College which was renowned for being the best college back then to study make-up artistry.
“I trained for three years to gain my qualification and worked in Space NK and Lancome during my first years then managed the Laura Mercier counter and team when it launched in House of Fraser. I was the youngest account manager in the store so that was an achievement.
“I’ve been solely focusing on bridal make-up (my passion) now for three years and I am so lucky to have bookings up to two years in advance. It’s the best job in the world, getting to spend the morning with a bride and her bridal party on her wedding day.”
What is your hero beauty product?
“My hero product that I use at some point during every wedding party is Mac Mineralise Skinfinish Highlighter in Soft and Gentle.
“I use this on top of the cheek bones and under the brow bone. It gives such a subtle highlight, almost like a natural glow. There is nothing I dislike more than over the top highlighting and some people get a bit nervous when I mention a highlighter, but as soon as they see this on the cheek bones they love it.
“In three years I haven’t had a bride who hasn’t wanted it on as part of her wedding make-up.
“This product suits everyone if applied subtly. From the junior bridesmaids to even the grans of the bride, I’ve used it on everyone!”
What are your tips for applying?
“If using a bronzer apply the highlighter first, then bronze after. It makes it even more natural looking. Pop in the inner corner of the eyes also for a subtle highlight to open up the eyes.”
