A lover of all things glam, floral and twinkly, Nicole knew exactly what she wanted for her big day when her boyfriend of four years, Grant, surprised her with a proposal (before treating her to a limo ride to the hotel – The Grand Central in Glasgow – that would later become their wedding venue!).
“The theme was traditional but with a little drama, a bit like myself, and just totally over the top,” laughs Nicole. Fortunately she met her match in Jordana Events, a wedding co-ordinator and event designer who was equally excited about bringing Nicole’s extravagant, luxurious vision to life: “The woman even had my cake on a swing; it was breathtaking!”
The couple’s theme was all about fresh whites, cosy creams, fabulous flowers and, of course, sparkle everywhere.
The hotel curtains were delicately covered with white linen and had stunning floral tiebacks to hold them in place whilst a giant letter ˜R’ “ representing their new joint surname “ covered in white peonies hung from the bay window.
Attention-grabbing doesn’t quite cover the centrepieces; large flower balls with dangling candles and, to match the super sparkly invitations, there were floral-filled glitter vases galore.
One area Nicole did take control of, however, was the wardrobe. “I went dress shopping with my mum and mother-in-law “ we used it as an excuse for a girls’ day out with lunch and cocktails!”
After trying a variety of styles (and tuning into months of Say Yes to the Dress), she settled on a gown that truly made her feel like a princess. Designed and made by Glasgow-based Suzanne Christyne, it had a sweetheart neckline, tulle ballgown skirt and a long train. Topping off the royal style was a blingy belt, crystallised headpiece and a custom-made chapel veil, adorned with crystals and pearls.
The five bridesmaids were exquisite in elegant pastel gowns and, of course, needed a sprinkling of shimmer too! Nicole added Vivienne Westwood Silver Line jewellery and glitzy diamante hairpieces.
The night before the wedding was all about pampering! After a visit to Nicole’s regular beautician for mani-pedis, she surprised her girls with a limo to the Grand Central Hotel’s beautiful bridal suite. Dinner, cocktails and a pyjama party followed before a “surprisingly calm” sleep then a busy morning.
The couple tied the knot during a personal and emotional (“happy tears!”) humanist ceremony and guests enjoyed lavish a champagne reception, complete with a musician and magician. But the entertainment didn’t stop there thanks to an operatic surprise from the SOS Singing Waiters during the meal and uncontrollable laughter during the speeches.
A further 60 guests joined for the evening reception with award-winning band Splendid Gentleman tearing up the dancefloor: “Everyone was so happy and in party mode; the party lasted until 5am in the champagne bar next door!”
