  1. Mrs Laura Little Wedding Date:
I've always dreamed of a fairy-tale wedding in a castle. It was actually my husband who found Melville Castle when we started to research venues, not one that I had heard of before. I sent an initial email showing some interest in visiting the venue and the wedding coordinator rang me that day. When she told me about the sweeping staircase in the castle I felt over the phone that I'd found my dream venue. We arranged to meet a few days later, she even stayed late to show us around. She gave us options of dates and a brochure to take home. There was no pressure at all, by the time we had left we knew it was our perfect wedding venue. We decided to exclusively hire the entire venue, including all rooms, for the full weekend. From that initial meeting until our wedding the castle were in regular contact by email and we had several meetings over the preceding 12months. As well as the wedding we asked for a set menu for 24guests for the Friday evening which the castle were more than willing to accommodate, and we wanted to offer our guests a choice of menu's for the wedding breakfast too, again the castle were happy to provide this service. We spent one great Sunday evening for our wine and food tasting! We got married on 3rd March - the week that the "beast from the east" hit. As I'm sure everyone can appreciate this added lots of extra stress and unfortunately meant a lot of things had to be altered/cancelled. The castle manager was in contact by phone several times in the few days leading up to the wedding offering us reassurance that it would all still go to plan on the day. Unfortunately due to the snow the road access to and from the venue was blocked, between us we managed to find a plough and gritter at short notice, which the castle covered the costs for. On the Friday, once at the venue, there were many things which had to be re-arranged. The staff were all fantastic, supportive and helpful. 15 day guests confirmed they could not make it, which also meant some rooms were going to be left unused. We contacted evening guests who were local and asked them to join us for the full day. The wedding co-ordinator, helped us re-arrange table plans, write new name settings and changed several adult menu's to children's since some guests no longer had childcare due to the snow. We managed to fill some of the rooms which reception helped with the re-arrangements. Unfortunately some food and drink hadn't been delivered, again due to snow, so the castle staff said they would hire a van and drive to the local cash and carry for supplies. On the Saturday morning staff were out with shovels clearing snow from the castle to the marquee (where we were having the reception). These are some, but not all, of the extraordinary steps the castle staff provided to ensure our day still ran as smoothly as possible. We cannot thank everyone enough for their outstanding service, and if you could see the picturesque snow filled photos of the castle you all would agree that this venue is the best. We would absolutely recommend Melville Castle as a wedding venue, whatever the weather!
