Every couple is unique, which is why every ceremony conducted by an HSS Celebrant is too.  When you select an HSS Celebrant for your ceremony you are in safe hands.  All our Celebrants are trained and reviewed to ensure they can help you create the ceremony that is just perfect for you.  Our Celebrants will work with you to find out about you as a couple and your hopes and dreams for your lives together; your ceremony is a celebration of that.

Humanist Society Scotland is the largest and longest standing provider of humanist ceremonies in Scotland.  We have over 100 celebrants across Scotland and are the only organisation to offer the HSS Ceremony Promise (

Something you might not know about us is that we are a national charity.  So when you have a Humanist Society Scotland ceremony you are helping us campaign for a rational, ethical and secular Scotland.  You are also helping us continue our work such as our School Visitors Programme, weekly T-Run and our international support to make the world fairer and more compassionate.

Choosing a HSS Celebrant for your wedding gives you peace of mind through our promise to you, you are supporting a national charity and you will have an amazing ceremony that reflects you as a couple and that you and your loved ones will talk about for years.

We recently got married and had Stewart Struthers conduct our ceremony. I would highly recommend him. It was so personalised, funny and heart felt at the same time. Stewart was also very easy to deal with and always prompt with his replies in the lead up to the wedding. On the day itself, Stewart kept everyone calm and was very well organised. Everyone knew what to do etc.

I recently got married in Novemeber 2017 at Ingliston Country Club. My husband and I decided to have a humanist ceremony and it was truly the best decision we ever made. We were married by the wonderful and incredibly kind Andrew Smithsimmons. He was everything we were looking for and more. His attention to detail and patience made the entire process stress free. We are incredibly grateful for all he did and can not recommend him and the HSS enough.

We had Neil Anderson as our humanist at our wedding in March and he was fantastic. Our situation leading up to the wedding was complex with my fiancé being in Australia but Neil was extremely helpful and everything ran smoothly.

Our guests were very impressed with Neil, especially those from Australia where humanist weddings are not common.

I would highly recommend a humanist wedding and in particular Neil. We found Neil via the HSS website.

Claire Digance was our amazing celebrant and we contacted her through the HSS website.
From the first point of contact, Claire was so warm and friendly. She visited us twice at home and kept in regularly contact with us as we planned together our ceremony. She was a wonderful support and encouraged us to write our own vows, sharing lots of examples and extracts of readings to incorporate too.
Our ceremony was everything that we could have hoped for and more. That was all thanks to Claire. She shared our story in such a loving and fun way and we couldn’t have been happier. All our family and friends have spoken to fondly of our ceremony saying how lovely and personal it was and they too spoke highly of Claire on our big day!

We found our amazing Humanist by looking through the HSS website! We met a few celebrants but when we met CLAIRE DIGANCE, we knew she was for us!!
She was exactly what we wanted- fun, relaxed and spread joy and laughter. She was so encouraging helping us to write our vows, giving us ideas and examples. We incorporated many family and friends into the ceremony and she totally helped us do that!
I have had so many guests tell me that she led the best ceremony they have ever been at, and I promise you, from one bride to another, that is the honest truth! I cannot recommend her highly enough xx

Without the Humanist Society for Scotland we would not have found our amazing celebrant Mary Wallace. Mary was a delight from start to finish and made the ceremony less daunting! She was a true professional and by the time she married us; felt like a friend! I would recommend a humanist ceremony to anyone who does not follow a religion and would like a personal ceremony. We had a hand fasting and personal vows which I adored! Couldn’t have had a better ceremony! x
