Bright + airy destination wedding at Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute

As a Scot, it can be hard to imagine why couples would travel miles and miles to hold a destination wedding in our country when there is so many beautiful spots across the globe to choose from. But when we had a look at Jersey couple Aleisha and Richard’s wedding in Bute, we totally get it – Scotland’s the best!

Their beautiful day featured a light and airy colour scheme, a beautiful marble chapel and, of course, the Scotland’s amazing scenery!

We met at a party when we were just 17! I knew he was the one when we went travelling together for a year; being with him every day, even staying in a tiny campervan, made me so happy. Even now, we always get excited to see each other after work every day.

Richard proposed to me in Dinan, France, the town we’d visited on our first date anniversary. We were crossing the bridge over the river in the moonlight and he proposed with a ring he designed. It’s a classic four-claw princess-cut diamond, and I absolutely adore it.

Our home is in Jersey but we wanted to get married in Scotland so we visited lots of venues. From the moment we saw the marble chapel at Mount Stuart, we knew nowhere else would compare. We went for a neutral theme and tried to work to our venue, using gypsophila in tall vases as table centrepieces to complement the high ceilings.

We had 100 guests for both day and night; we wouldn’t have asked anyone to trek to Bute and miss the best bits. The night before, we had a big get together for everyone to meet. On our wedding morning, Richard and his ushers freshened up with a dip in the chilly Firth of Clyde!

Our caterers, Hickory, were amazing – everything was so delicious! Our evening buffet was a selection of mini pies served with cones of duck fat chips. Their team were so much help before and during the event, we couldn’t have managed without them.

We couldn’t believe how quickly everyone joined us on the dancefloor after our first dance, and most didn’t leave till 1am! We had a surprise performance from Saltire Beat as well, which was great. There were definitely some sore heads the next morning…
