When I first saw this wedding, I really loved that the couple went for a dusky colour scheme which really suited their stately home venue. The wedding took place in the middle of summer, but for me it has an autumnal vibe which makes me really excited for the start of the brand new season. Bride Alison and groom Alex tells us in her own words about where she found her wedding inspiration, and how everything went on the big day…
“We met when we were both very young, on Alex’s 18th birthday. We just found each other so easy to get on with and could completely be ourselves around each other. We have grown up together and really are best friends. We are a team and have always supported each other in everything we do,” says Alison.
“We went up Calton Hill for sunrise with a tartan blanket and mug of tea, then went to our favourite place for breakfast. Then in Princes Street Gardens when no one was around, Alex went down on one knee.” explains Alison.
“We genuinely could not have pulled off our wedding without the support and help of our parents and families. Alison’s older sister Lisa was her bridesmaid and worked for weeks solid before the wedding to help ensure our day was perfect and personal.” says Alex.
“We chose a humanist ceremony and wanted it to be personal and tell the story of us,” smiles Alison. “We kept our vows secret until the day. We were both laughing and crying hearing what each other had written. It was the highlight of the wedding. Our vows, readings and the story told by our humanist was perfect! We really did get to marry our best friend.”
It’s a running joke that Alex is one of One Direction’s biggest fans, so we chose a song called 18 by them as we both met when we were 18 years’ old,” says Alison. “It was very much an informal party with everyone enjoying themselves on the dancefloor or watching others let loose!” laughs Alison.
