With Scotland on lockdown until 28 May and phase one of the route map – during which weddings will still not be permitted – expected to last until at least 18 June, many of you who have had to postpone your big day may be considering a lockdown wedding at home.
This can be a special way to mark your original wedding date and introduce a little joy to these troubled times.
But what the hell do you wear when you’re getting fake-married in your house?
Even if you’re fortunate enough to have picked up your dress from the bridal boutique, you’ll likely want to save that dress for your actual wedding.
Others won’t even have the option of wearing their designer wedding dress because they’ve been unable to collect it from the shop.
Fortunately, it’s summer, which means that high street shops have a larger-than-usual selection of white dresses that would make an ideal placeholder for your actual wedding dress.
Plus, when you’re eventually able to go on honeymoon, they’d fit seamlessly into your honeymoon wardrobe.
We’ve scoured the UK high street for the best wedding dresses you can buy online for your lockdown wedding. Keep scrolling for our edit.
SW shopping edit // Wedding dresses you can buy online
Iris dress (£50) Ghost
This dress is the cheapest of a handful of Ghost wedding dresses that are on sale right now. And if you venture outside of the bridal section you’ll find loads of gorgeous dresses that befit the occasion. Remember you don’t have to wear white!
Long sleeve lace short shift dress (£29.50) Coast
Coast has an amazing 50% off sale on just now with lots of reasonably priced dresses that’d work for a wedding at home. We love the vintage vibe of this mini dress.
Satin side tie midi dress (£95) & Other Stories
If you’re all about the sleek Scandi look then & Other Stories is the place for you. They have a bunch of beautiful, minimalist white dresses in right now, as well as some more summery broderie anglaise styles. It has a sale on just now too.
Feather bardot dress (£95) Karen Millen
How fun is this feathery dress? It’s one of several white dresses on sale at Karen Millen at the moment. The retailer also has 40% off a selected range of full-price styles.
Floxyy cabana broderie anglaise halter neck dress (£229) Ted Baker
This is on the pricier side for a placeholder wedding dress but it doesn’t look *too* bridal so you’d get plenty of wear out of it as a summer dress.
Midi satin skirt (£49.99) and satin top (£35.99) Mango
Mango Violeta is one of our favourite plus-size high street retailers. This stylish skirt and top combo is available in sizes Medium to XXL. You could wear each piece separately too; dress the skirt down with a tee or smarten up a pair of high-waisted jeans with the silky cami.
Ivory print double V maxi dress (£44.10) Topshop
Topshop has 30% off a range of its summer styles right now, and top of our list is this romantic floral dress with a V neck, V back and ruffled waistline. It’s a boho dream.
Ivory cold shoulder ruffle trim dress (£114) The Outnet
We always keep an eye on The Outnet for designer bargs like this Halston dress, which originally cost £507. You’ll also find a range of white dresses from designers such as Ghost, Ganni and See By Chloe with mega savings to be had.
Petite ivory halter neck maxi dress (£50) Miss Selfridge
One for petite brides, this dress has an Art Deco vibe thanks to its beaded embellishments. It was originally £150 but you can pick it up for a third of its original price on sale.
Augustina broderie dress (£111.75) Whistles
There’s 25% off full-price clothing at Whistles right now, and this effortlessly stylish ivory dress is perfect for a summer wedding at home. Whistles also has a dedicated bridal range, but it’s quite a bit pricier than its mainline collection.
Annalise satin belted bridal jumpsuit (£93) French Connection
If it’s a bridal jumpsuit you’re after then we love this relaxed 70s-inspired style which has a hint of Bianca Jagger about it. Part of the French Connection bridal collection, it’s one of a number of items on the site with a discount right now.
Meryl dress (£75) Chi Chi London
Chi Chi London is a perennial favourite for bridesmaid and guest dresses, but it has plenty of white dresses that would work for a wedding at home too. Plus-size brides should check out its dedicated curve bridal collection.
White ruffle sleeve bodycon white dress (£55) River Island
If bohemian prairie-style dresses don’t float your boat at all and you’d like something a bit more glam, this bodycon number is for you. The ruffled shoulders, tight fit and thigh split give it a slightly 80s feel (in a totally chic way, of course).
V by Very check midi dress (£48) Very
If you want a dress that offers both style and comfort (let’s face it, we’re all living in our pyjamas right now), this sheer shirt dress is ideal. It’s belted at the waist for a nipped-in silhouette but you can whip that off as soon as the cake’s been eaten for a more comfortable fit.
Fleur embellished flare sleeved maxi dress (£195) Monsoon
With its golden hue, sheer fluted sleeves and shimmering beads, sequins and gems, you’ll look like an actual angel in this dress. We reckon this would make a beautiful bridesmaid dress too.
Champagne satin top (£92.50) Valle & Vik
A new designer on our radar, Valle & Vik specialise in Scandi-inspired, pared-back silhouettes. This champagne satin top is half price right now, and the matching skirt is on sale too.
