Scottish wedding dress shops are reopening – here’s what you need to know

coronavirus wedding dress shopping

One of the most exciting aspects of planning a wedding is, of course, the part where you get to shop for your wedding dress – but Scottish brides have had to put this on hold for the past few months due to coronavirus closing down the non-essential retail sector.

The good news is that street-access retail spaces can open back up again in Scotland which means that many Scottish wedding dress shops are preparing to reopen their doors this week to brides-to-be.

So let’s get wedding dress shopping!

What restrictions will be in place?

It won’t be the exact same wedding dress shopping experience as normal, but it won’t be too far from it – even in the pre-covid world, lots of bridal boutiques operated on an appointment-only basis and would have only a handful of people in the shop at any one time. This will still be the case.

However, there will be some additional hygiene safety measures.

The Scottish Government has advised that shops can reopen with physical distancing, hygiene measures and controls on the number of people who enter.

As of Friday 10th July, face coverings will be mandatory in all indoor shops, so make sure you bring one with you.

Each bridal boutique will likely vary in terms of the number of people that can attend an appointment, but we’ve noticed that most are advising you bring just one or two people with you, and many will not allow children to attend.

Most boutiques will be happy for you to video call any friends or family that can’t be there, however!

What should I bring?

As mentioned, face masks are a must. Bring gloves too, and a pair of your own heels with you for when you try the dresses on.

Between appointments, boutique staff will disinfect the store and steam and sanitise any gowns that were tried on by a previous customer to ensure your safety.

Some boutiques may also take your temperature before you enter the shop.

Here’s our guide to which Scottish bridal boutiques are opening and when.

A LITTLE UPDATE… Firstly we hope you’re all keeping safe and healthy and staying home if you can. We’re starting to see an increase in enquiries coming in and wanted to let everyone know that we’re still unsure of when we’ll be able to reopen. We’re following the Scottish Government guidelines and won’t be opening until it’s safe to do so, however it has got us thinking about what that will look like. Part of the experience of buying your dress with us is the emotional connection. The relaxed appointments, laughs, tears and all important hugs are part of our everyday life at Melle Cloche and without that, will it be the same? We still want you all to have a great experience, but safely, so we’re currently making plans about what changes we’ll be making moving forward. In the meantime we now have an appointment wait list so you can email us your name, wedding date and contact details and we’ll call you once we have an opening date. In the meantime stay safe and keep dreaming and planning.
