This Saturday, SWD were lucky enough to be invited along to watch Harry and Meghan say I do at a special royal wedding afternoon tea being hosted by Fairmont St Andrews.
It’s now nearly three days later and we’re still drooling over all the delicious cakes and sweet treats they created specially for the day!
Here’s a wee sneak peek at what we ate, plus the lowdown on how to book your own afternoon tea treat at the luxury hotel…
Hosted in the gorgeous Atrium Lounge (a beautiful spot perfect for summer wedding ceremonies!), the star of the Fairmont’s royal wedding afternoon tea was the showstopping wedding cake centrepiece.
The Executive Chef at the hotel created the lemon and elderflower cakes using locally sourced ingredients, and hand decorated them with real, edible flowers and insanely intricate icing.
Wedding cake inspo
We love the really delicate use of flowers around the edges – it’s a really pretty way to add a pop of colour into your wedding cake!
All guests at the afternoon tea got to take a miniature cake away with them, but there were plenty of other cakes to keep us going throughout.
The Fairmont’s signature ‘wedding cake’ selection featured traditional Victoria’s sponge, fruit cake with royal icing and blueberry violette cake, amongst lots of others!
We were also treated to all the usual components of an afternoon tea, although most were given a special edge, like the scones served with rose petal preserve (one of our personal highlights).
In honour of Meghan and Harry’s big day, which was screened live during the afternoon tea on screens, we washed all the delicious treats down with some perfectly chilled champagne!
We also have to point out that the service was amazing! I have an allergy that prevented me eating some of the cakes on offer, but the chef went out of his way to make me a delicious chocolate fondant instead – if you’ve also got special dietary requirements, you’ll be pleased to know it won’t be an issue at the Fairmont.
Booking your own afternoon tea
You may have missed out on this royal wedding afternoon tea, but you can still get a taste of luxury by booking in for one of their Savoy Afternoon Teas.
They’re held in the Atrium Lounge and include a similar range of delicious cakes, finger sandwiches and indulgent pastries.
We reckon it’s the perfect way to celebrate your wedding with your mum, or it would make for a lovely, chilled out hen party alternative!
