When you go shopping on the high street, you expect to see a new wave of clothes hitting the rails every few weeks or so. But the story is a little different for wedding dress shops – they don’t operate in the world of fast fashion, choosing instead to work with a curated selection of bridal designers who generally release one or two major new collections a year.
For every issue of Scottish Wedding magazine, we ask wedding dress shops in Scotland and Scottish bridal designers to tell us the one dress in their boutique that they’re completely obsessed with at that moment.
Here are just some of the wedding dresses that Scottish wedding dress shops are loving for 2020.
MIRKA BRIDAL COUTURE
“This peach and ivory figure-hugging gown (POA) boasts a daring slit in the centre of the dress that will elongate your legs,” says Mirka Jankowska, the talent behind Fife wedding dress designer Mirka Bridal Couture.
“The slit is trimmed with hand-cut floral lace, with a short sweeping train trimmed with the same lace. While I love the peachy colour, this gown can be made with a choice of underlay colour including ivory and white.”
“The ‘Cambridge’ dress (£1,695) from the new Sottero and Midgley collection is the most beautiful Donella crepe with a sheer sequin lace bodice, plunging neckline, illusion lace back and breathtaking train,” says Lisa Bell from Glasgow wedding dress shop Melle Cloche.
“It’s a great mix of sexiness and elegance and perfect for our brides who look for a statement dress but without all the fuss.”
PAN PAN BRIDAL
“The embellishment on the body and sleeve of this Rosa Clará dress (£1,600) is gorgeous and very much gives it that coveted bohemian look,” says Huda Abdulgader from Edinburgh bridal shop Pan Pan Bridal.
“We are loving the cute bishop sleeves.”
“Our CG Loves ‘Hope’ dress (£879.99) is a gorgeous silhouette of figure-hugging stretch crepe,” says Edinburgh-based bridal designer Catriona Garforth-Dev of CG Loves.
“The boat neckline is decorated with shimmering tasselled strands creating some modern glamour for a bride who wants to stand out.”
“A mermaid silhouette with a unique tulle skirt flowing from a semi-sheer beaded bodice with lace appliques, ‘Galatea’ (POA) from the new Pronovias 2020 collection is super dreamy,” says Sharon McPherson of West Kilbride boutique Opus Couture.
ALISON KIRK BRIDAL
“This Lillian West dress (£1,250) is effortlessly chic,” says Lindsay Brown of Alison Kirk Bridal.
“We love the unique Venice lace bodice and chiffon skirt. The lace trimming at the natural waist matches the cuff on the illusion long sleeve, creating an overall romantic look.”
FROX OF FALKIRK
“I love the sheer elegance that this Jennifer Wren dress (POA) oozes. The lace is stunning and the back is an inspired touch of sophistication,” says Natalie Godfrey of Frox of Falkirk.

“The ‘Lana’ dress (£1,800) is one of my most commented-on designs because of the modern embellished lace paired with a classic silhouette, channeling a little bit of Grace Kelly for modern brides,” says Wendy Harman of Flossy and Dossy.
JOYCE YOUNG DESIGN STUDIOS
“The ‘Anastasia’ wedding dress (POA) from the Couture Collection is a style that will never date. The vintage-style dress is long-sleeved with laser-cut applique lace and a low back. ‘Anastasia’ has a sleek silhouette with a beautiful train,” says Alexandra Pierotti of Joyce Young Design Studios.
KUDOS – EDINBURGH
“This Essense of Australia crepe gown (£1,699, or £1,599 without the beaded detail) with full lace beaded sleeves and a stunning low V-back with buttons running all down the train is sheer elegance,” says Millie Polson of Kudos in Edinburgh.
“The plunge on the bodice with lace illusion sides and a laser cut-out train detailing makes for a modern twist on a traditional lace sleeve. Classic, chic and a little sexy, it’s perfect for the modern bride.”
OLIVIA CAMERON BRIDAL
“Royal-inspired and simply chic, this matte Mikado wedding dress is as timeless as love itself,” says Fiona Smart of wedding dress shop Olivia Cameron Bridal in Falkirk.
“From bridal designer Stella York, the flattering ballgown silhouette features a modern empire waist and open, square back.”
RACHEL SCOTT BRIDAL COUTURE
“From its perfect couture detailing to the sleek lines and sumptuous silhouette, Suzanne Neville’s ‘Talia’ (POA) is a dress that ultimately provides the wearer with a totally mesmerising bold statement, while managing to look equally understated, chic and elegant,” says Rachel from Edinburgh wedding dress shop Rachel Scott Bridal Couture.
