One of these gowns has been named Wedding Dress of the Year 2018

Every year, Team SWD attends the Bridal Buyer Awards. This glittering celebration recognises the hard work of everyone who works in the bridal fashion industry, from the amazing wedding dress boutiques to those who actually design the gowns.

I had the great honour of being on the judging panel at this year’s awards for a handful of categories, and let me tell you: it was hard. There are so many incredibly talented and hard-working people in the bridalwear industry who deserve all of the awards for what they do.

Fortunately I wasn’t tasked with helping to choose Wedding Dress of the Year, because my head would have exploded from indecision.

Here are the dresses that made the shortlist – and the one that was crowned the winner!

WEDDING DRESS OF THE YEAR 2018: THE SHORTLIST

ALLURE BRIDALS, STYLE ‘9501’

Wedding Dress of the Year 2018 Allure Bridals

This sleeveless lace sheath wedding dress has delicate straps, a scalloped bodice and illusion lace back. Swoon.

ENZOANI, ‘MCKINLEY’

Wedding Dress of the Year 2018

With its elegant lace train, deep sweetheart neckline and and stretch georgette skirt, this gown is sexy but elegant.

JUSTIN ALEXANDER, STYLE ‘8966’

Wedding Dress of the Year 2018 Justin Alexander

The V neckline, the Chantilly lace, the glam deep V back; this is a dress that quietly enhances rather than overwhelms.

MAGGIE SOTTERO, ‘CORDELIA’

Wedding Dress of the Year 2018 Maggie Sottero

This vintage-inspired ballgown has it all: a bateau neckline, dipped back and pockets.

MIKAELLA, STYLE ‘2181’

Wedding Dress of the Year 2018 Mikaella

The sheer midriff on this gorgeous gown makes it perfect for a bride who loves the look of separates but prefers the comfort of a dress.

MORI LEE, ‘KARLEE’

Wedding Dress of the Year Mori Lee

We love off-the-shoulder styles at SWD and this one, with its long illusion sleeves, is seriously glam.

AND THE WINNER IS…

ESSENSE OF AUSTRALIA, STYLE ‘D2322’

Wedding Dress of the Year Essense of Australia

The competition was fierce, but in the end this is the gown that won everyone’s hearts. Subtly sexy with lace cut-outs and an uber-feminine design, it also has a gorgeous cameo lace back.
