Have you ever noticed how good your make-up looks when you’ve really made an effort with your skincare routine? That’s what you want for your wedding day “ and according to make-up artist Natalie Mackenzie, making sure your skin is properly hydrated is key to creating the ideal base for your bridal make-up.

“Make-up will only ever look as good as the skin below allows it to. Adding a hyaluronic acid-based serum in between toning and moisturising will help immensely to smooth and hydrate skin,” says Natalie.

Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, so look out for it if you suffer from dehydrated skin. And remember that dehydrated skin isn’t  the same as dry skin; dehydrated skin lacks water while dry skin lacks oil, so it is possible to have skin that is both oily and dehydrated (you can be dry and dehydrated too).

“Hyaluronic acid helps bind moisture to the skin, ensuring that skin retains the natural moisture that it has, as well as maximising the benefits of your moisturiser. My favourite is Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair (£72). However, for a more budget-conscious bride, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid (£5.90) is a great alternative!”
