Natalie and Darren’s blush-themed big day was full of love, laughter and dancing the night away.
We speak to bride Natalie to find out more abut their dream day.
When Natalie and Darren were set up on a blind date by mutual friends, it began like all good rom-coms do.
“I thought he was a bit of a chav and he thought I was a bit posh!” laughs Natalie. But like in all good love stories, those initial impressions soon gave way to true romance, and five years later Darren popped the question in a very unique way.
“Darren secretly adopted a cat without me knowing,” says Natalie. “When I came home from work, he got down on one knee with the cat in his arms and the ring on the collar!”
Once wedding planning got underway, the couple soon found their perfect venue in Aberdeen’s Maryculter House Hotel. “We loved the fact it was very scenic with beautiful views,” explains Natalie.
Deciding on a romantic blush colour scheme, they enlisted the expert help of North East Events to bring their theme to life, incorporating candles, flowers and blackboard signage into the décor.
After a chilled morning getting ready with a champagne breakfast, the moment came to walk down the aisle to Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.
“I wasn’t overly emotional; my dad and I were too busy laughing as we didn’t realise, when the curtain opened, that we had to start walking!” says Natalie.
“To be stood up there in front of all our family and friends pledging our life to each other was really special.
We did a handfasting which I’ve always thought is beautiful and symbolic.” The couple had their first dance to Running Home to You by Grant Gustin from the TV show The Flash.
“It’s one of our favourite shows and it’s an absolutely beautiful song,” says Natalie. And then it was time for everyone to party away in true Scottish style!
“Our band played a mix of ceilidh and pop music. We wanted to have a ceilidh as we had my cousins over from Canada and we wanted to show them how we do weddings over here!”
Now that they’re married, the couple say they have different goals to look forward to in the future, and that they can’t wait to get started on them. But before all that, they’re honeymooning in Mexico!
