Autumnal big day with sweet treats at Castle Fraser, Sauchen

Couple David and Juliana celebrated their big day with an autumnal-themed wedding in the beautiful Castle Fraser, Sauchen.

Here, bride Juliana shares their wedding moments, captured by Loraine Ross Wedding Photography.

David was brought up in Sauchen, just four miles from Castle Fraser so whenever we would visit his parents as students we would always go for a walk around the grounds.

When we had a show round of the venue we instantly knew it was The One – it was such a big castle but it was also so warm and welcoming which was important to us.

Having worked in the events industry myself, I was quite particular about how and where everything should go.

The staff let me do my thing, but of course were happy to help if need be. It was so exciting to see all of the ideas in my head come together and I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.

For our drinks reception, we served bubbly and canapés in Laigh Hall, a stone-vaulted entrance hall which provided an authentic welcome and totally wowed our wedding guests.

Our guests then got the opportunity to go on guided tours of the castle while our photographer Lorraine took us up to the top of the Round Tower and to the Walled Garden to capture some amazing shots.

Autumn is our favourite season so we wanted to incorporate that into our day.

We adorned the Laigh Hall with autumnal decor including pumpkins and leaves which we scattered up the stone spiral staircase leading to the Great Hall along with copper storm lanterns.

Our wedding was on Bonfire Night so we thought it would be fun to have toffee apples as wedding favours, however these were delivered to our home address in error – over 180 miles away!

This resulted in a frantic hunt for 80 toffee apples – we must have visited every supermarket in Aberdeenshire that day but got there in the end!

Our day was fabulous – we wouldn’t change a thing! My advice would be don’t sweat the small stuff, because as long as you’re married at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters!

Our relationship is no different now that we’re married but it’s lovely to spend the rest of your life with your best friend and we have cherished memories from our wedding day.
