A Mid-Autumn Night’s Dream wedding at Aswanley, Huntly

Rachel and Gordon combined celestial-inspired décor with autumnal colours for their Aberdeenshire wedding.

The couple’s Aswanley wedding was beautifully captured by Weddings by Hayley and Craig, down to every last moon and star.

Here, bride Rachel, shares all the details from their special day.

We met via online dating and for our first date went for some drinks. I thought he was very handsome and he made me laugh instantly.

Gordon thought I was beautiful, kind and funny (and a bit of a lightweight!).

We wanted to include autumn colours and we both love the moon and stars so we combined the two in our theme. I was calling it a Mid-Autumn Night’s Dream.

The table names were constellations and my dad made a hanging crescent moon to go along with some star lights.

My favourite movie is It’s a Wonderful Life so I had a custom ‘Lasoo the Moon’ print made, but replaced the name George with Gordie.

I also framed a poem my mum wrote about me and Gordon which was read at my hen as a surprise.

I was very excited to go dress shopping. It turns out the dress I chose was actually one I had shown my friend when we first got engaged!

I love all things Gatsby and 1920s, and it very much had that look.

We wanted the ceremony to be personal to us.

We did the handfasting using a Caithness tartan for Gordon and my late Grampa Joe’s tartan Graham of Menteith for me.

We also drank from a quaich which had belonged to my grampa.

The speeches were all so good. Gordon’s was so lovely with some funny parts too.

Our best man’s speech was very funny and my dad’s was very touching with embarrassing moments thrown in about my many ‘Rachel’ moments!

A must for us was ceilidh music and dancing but we wanted some contemporary music too.

Everyone had a great night. I didn’t want it to end.

We went to the Maldives on honeymoon for 10 days. We went three days after the wedding, which was perfect. It really was paradise.

Bride’s advice

Occasionally stand back and have a moment to take it all in. The day goes quicker than you could ever imagine, and when else will you have everyone you both love together?
