Former Miss Scotland and model Nieve Jennings didn’t have to look far for her prince; she was lunching at Duck Bay Hotel, a beautiful venue by Loch Lomond, when her future husband Stuart approached her and asked her out on a date. The rest, as they say, is history.
“We decided to go for coffee and from the moment he picked me up, we chatted non-stop. I knew he was The One almost right away “ when its right, you just know,” says Nieve.
After just nine happy months together, Stuart popped the question during a holiday in Dubai. “I wasn’t expecting it but I was secretly hoping he’d ask! We started planning our wedding there and then. We even made the guest list while we were still on holiday!”
“There were some things we knew straight away. We wanted to get married at Duck Bay; Stuart’s family own it, so we were able to close the place down for the day, and it was extra special because it’s where we met. We also knew we wanted a big wedding “ we had 140 day guests and another 120 people at night!” says Nieve.
The loved-up pair chose Luss Church for their ceremony. “As well as being near Duck Bay, it was special to both of us,” Nieve tells us. “My grandparents grew up nearby, as did Stuart, and I spent a lot of time in Luss when I was younger; it was lovely to be able to have our ceremony somewhere familiar to both of us.”
As a model, Neive had worked at numerous wedding shows, so picking her own gown was a strange notion! “I’ve worn so many wedding dresses, but it was so different picking my own. I didn’t want anything puffy, I wanted to look quite sleek,” she says.
Nieve tried on seven or eight gowns in her search before finding The One at Opus Atelier, West Kilbride. “I’m very lucky to have worn my Berta dress; it was absolutely the dress of my dreams,” she smiles.
“I was quite chilled out while wedding planning. Stuart had his groomzilla moments more than I did!” laughs Nieve. “I didn’t rush when booking suppliers or worry about things too much. On the day I wasn’t too nervous, though I didn’t sleep at all the night before because I was so excited!”
For the ceremony, the couple had a string quartet and a 23-piece choir “ “we wanted to make it more than your average ceremony!” “ and the celebrant even joked that the pair should have signed a deal with OK! Magazine!
“At the reception, we had a jazz band, gamta Vegas feather girls, the gamta junior rat pack, a magician and a Michael Buble tribute act,” says Nieve. “And our main band, Stax of Motown, were phenomenal.”
While there were lots of stand-out moments from the Nieve and Stuart’s wedding, Nieve says that the one to top it all was the look on Stuart’s face when he saw her walking towards him down the aisle.
“It was so special. My uncle also performed a song at the evening reception that he had written and composed for us, called Breathe, and we had our first dance to Andy Williams’ Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. There were so many amazing memories that we’ll cherish forever,” she says.
After the wedding, the new Mr and Mrs King jetted off business class to Dubai. “We’re just so happy to be married,” reflects Nieve. “We absolutely love it. We were always close but I know it’s only going to get better. He’s my soulmate, and that’s it.”
