CHOOSE YOUR VENUE: Thanks to changes in the law, it is now possible to have a civil ceremony at many venues where traditionally only the reception could have been held. Although the advantages are obvious, the disadvantage is that you are left with a staggering choice of beautiful locations in which to hold your ceremony and reception!
MARQUEES: For some couples, their ideal wedding venue may have one major drawback – it simply isn’t big enough. Historic venues such as castles and stately homes often combat this by offering the use of a marquee. If you don’t like the idea of a hotel wedding package and would prefer to be more in control, then a marquee could be heaven sent.
CATERING: Couples should remember that the wedding is their day and that the venue and guests are ancillary. They should choose the menu they want and not worry about offending Great Aunt Nellie or anyone else. In particular they should not worry about respective mother in laws – both of whom, it should be remembered, have had their own wedding day.
WINE: For many couples planning a wedding, choosing the wines can be somewhat daunting. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Wine guru Jason Harvie offers his tips for a top wedding tipple.
DECORATION: From fantastic to funky and everything in between, your wedding venue can be anything you want it to be. Flowers are the obvious choice for sprucing up a party, but there are plenty of alternatives that look just as good and cost less.
ACCOMMODATION: Having your friends and family all together is one of the best things about getting married. But remember that any out of town guests will need to find somewhere to stay during the wedding. If you are planning to ask people to board planes, trains and automobiles in order to attend your celebration, it’s not a bad idea to provide a varied list of possible places that you would recommend.
