So the question’s been popped and you’re sporting a rather fabulous sparkler. The next thing you have to do is decide on the perfect date to get married! With Valentine’s Day coming up, it’s got us thinking about the advantages of getting hitched on a significant date. And we’re not talking about dates that are important to you as a couple (like your anniversary) but rather the big calendar dates that everyone celebrates. Here are our pros and cons…
PROS
Choosing your theme will be a doddle. Love is the obvious one for Valentine’s Day (perfect excuse to load up on all the cute loveheart-adorned Valentine’s goodies in the shops just now), or how about a good Scottish knees-up for a Hogmanay wedding, complete with a ceilidh, whisky and shortbread favours?
Your guests will be in the mood to celebrate even more than usual, especially if you have an Easter wedding when many have time off work and can really let their hair down. Perfect if you’re hiring out a gorgeous Scottish castle or country mansion for the weekend.
It’s a memorable date, so it’ll stick in everyone’s minds. Which means it will be much harder for your other half to forget your anniversary!
CONS
It could prove to be a popular date which means you may not get your first choice of venue, so if the date is your top priority then start location hunting early on and have a list of potential places ready.
You might feel like it’s not a date that’s personal enough to you as a couple because you’ll be sharing your anniversary with lots of people…unless it happens to be the date the two of you got together (or got engaged) in the first place!
Some guests might not be able to make it if it’s an occasion that they mark by going away on holiday or to visit family, like during the festive period. But if you’re having a small celebration with just your nearest and dearest, this shouldn’t be a problem.
