One of the best things about getting married in Scotland is the amazing choice of venues. And it's not just the magnificent castles and bonny beaches; if you're an unconventional couple, you can get hitched somewhere a little more quirky if it has the appropriate license!
Here are four of the SWD's favourite unusual wedding venues in Scotland...
Hamilton Park Racecourse
www.hamilton-park.co.uk
T: 01696 206748
Set in the heart of Lanarkshire, this is a fitting choice for fans of the races. You can tie the knot while one of the race meetings take place, or even arrange for a professional tipster to come along and advise your guests! The beautifully manicured lawns provide a stunning setting, and there is a permanent marquee that can hold between 50 - 250 guests.
Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel
www.lighthousehotel.co.uk
T: 01776 853220
This A-listed functioning lighthouse, situated near the village of Kirkcolm, Stranraer, is ideal for intimate weddings. It's a three-star hotel which can cater for up to 28 guests in the North Channel Suite. You can be married anywhere in the hotel except the tower itself; or why not have your ceremony outside, with the stately lighthouse as your wonderfully picturesque backdrop.
WEST - Brewery, Bar & Restaurant
www.westbeer.com
T: 0141 550 0135
Set in the old Winding House at the famous Victorian Templeton Carpet Factory in Glasgow's east end and overlooking the People's Palace on Glasgow Green, WEST is something of a landmark. Not to mention a great wedding location for beer fans! You can hold your ceremony in The Hop Room, and make use of the entire brewery (which can seat up to 250 guests) for your reception.
Marlins Wynd
www.marlinswynd.com
T: 0131 225 1650
The marvellously atmospheric stone vaults of Marlins Wynd make a stunning historic setting. The reception area is part of a typical Edinburgh Georgian tenement built in 1787, while the cellars below were constructed in the 1540s. Your guests can enjoy drinks in the Georgian reception room, then a seated lunch for up to 68 guests (or up to 100 if the meal is served buffet-style).
