We asked recent bride Sara, 27, to reveal all about her bridal boudoir photography experience. She decided to do it after reading a magazine article about it. "I thought it would be something different to get Paul for a wedding present," she says.
When she booked, she was sent an information pack describing what would happen on the day, so had a good idea of what to expect. She got in the mood by having her hair done and took a few accessories along on the day: "I took the underwear I was going to wear on my wedding day, a basque with some stockings, plus my veil and tiara. I also took one of Paul's shirts and a couple of pairs of high heels," she adds.
Before the shoot the bride-to-be was very excited but understandably nervous, having never done anything like it before. "I think the excitement took over in the end. The girls at the studio were great, they really put me at ease. I met my photographer as I was having my hair done – she was lovely."
Getting over the nerves
Sara says it helped to have one of her bridesmaids there for moral support. "There were only three people in the room: me, my bridesmaid and the photographer. I was pleased to see that the studio was quite dark too! Most of the photos were taken either up against a wall or on a mirrored block. I was nervous to begin with but after a while I got into it. Towards the end I was getting tired but it was great fun."
Altogether Sara's photographer took about 50 images, mainly of her lying down, with a few standing poses too. "Most of them didn't reveal much," she says. "It was the lighting and poses that made them very seductive."
For anyone who's worried they wouldn't know what to do with themselves during the shoot, Sara says not to let this put this off: "They know what works best and tell you exactly what to do – they are great at putting you at ease."
And she was really happy when she saw the photos... "I was shocked at how good some of them turned out. Paul was very shocked too but really pleased with the album." In fact the whole experience exceeded her expectations, she says. "I didn't expect to feel so comfortable. I felt great afterwards and was extremely pleased with the results. I would highly recommend it to anyone, even those who may feel a little nervous about doing something like this – it's a great confidence booster. Every woman likes to feel sexy and I think this is a great gift to share with your new hubby."
