FAKE TAN ON THE WEDDING DAY

Fake tan is often hard to get right, but you obviously want it to be perfect on your wedding day. So we asked brides-to-be from across the country to take the tan test. They tried out four different professional salon fake tan treatments... and here are the results!

ST TROPEZ SPRAY TAN (£35)
Esther Steel, 31, from Glasgow received her treatment at 15 Royal Terrace Day Spa, Glasgow
(www.15royalterrace.co.uk / T: 0141 331 0066)

The tan: It was a spray tan and although it didn’t feel sticky I was aware it was there for the first hour. After that it felt fine. The colour was very good. I’m naturally very fair and some fake tans make me look orange but this was a nice golden brown. The smell, however, was fairly strong – my fiancé noticed as soon as I got home and it took two days to go away.
The salon: I would definitely recommend the salon and its warm, friendly staff. I’ve had the same spray tan done elsewhere but I preferred this experience. I would go back to them for other treatments too!

FAKE BAKE GOLD SPRAY TAN (£38)
Heidi Tweedie, 29, from Nairn, received her treatment at Fantasia Health & Beauty Salon, Inverness (www.fantasiabeauty.co.uk / T: 01463 243 244)

The tan: The colour was nice and natural, despite me being very pale – I even looked OK straight after the treatment and the next day I looked sun-kissed! It made me feel slimmer and more confident, plus the salon treatment was a real pampering treat. I’m not a big one for being tanned but this beat my fear of being a ‘Tango-ed’ bride!
The salon: I would definitely recommend the process of a salon tan as you get your whole body exfoliated and moisturised beforehand. That in itself made it a real treat! The staff at Fantasia salon were really knowledgeable as well as being very friendly and fun, which is quite important as you have to stand about for a wee while with only paper pants on!

SUN LABS SPRAY TAN (£45)
Joni Rowe, 26, from Edinburgh, received her treatment at PURE SPA, Edinburgh (www.purespauk.com / T: 0131 561 1320)

The tan: The spray tan went on with no colour in the salon, it developed overnight and when I woke up in the morning I had a brown natural-looking tan – it wasn’t orange at all. The product didn’t feel heavy or greasy; it felt like my skin was being moisturised. I would definitely use this tan again and I’m considering using it for my wedding (although I might choose a lighter shade).
The salon: The salon was superb. The staff were helpful and attentive and answered all the questions I had about the treatment – I even went in for a patch test beforehand to see which colour I liked the best!

TAN TRUTH (£30)

Kate Taylor, 22, from Aberdeen, received her treatment from @Home Bridal, Aberdeen
(www.athomebridal.co.uk / T: 07888 675 5
99)

The tan: The eventual colour is a nice natural-looking tan. It didn’t feel heavy on my skin and seemed to start working quite quickly. The smell was pleasant enough and it built up well over the evening then continued to develop the next day. Overall, the tan is really nice, and gave a lovely glow to my skin. It also lasted really well.
The salon: The therapist was really lovely, very friendly and explained everything to me, which was great as it was the first time I’d ever had a fake tan. I’d absolutely recommend her to anyone!
