Trend setters

Still to choose your dress? Then our 2010 catwalk highlights will help you stay on-trend.

Creating volume

Create the illusion of a really big dress but still have room to strut your stuff on the dancefloor by choosing a gown with ruffled tiers. The ruffles will normally be from the waist down or simply sit at the hem, but always add texture and movement.

What's the theme?

Designed to capture a particular era or period in time, such as the 1920s or Edwardian era, we're likely to see more brides working to tailor their gown to their venue, which helps create a more complete, authentic overall look.

Embellishment

Gowns embellished with flowers are a top trend for 2010. The flowers can range from tiny buds to large displays and can even incorporate your favourite blooms if you like. Beading is an ever popular way of decorating wedding gowns too. Use it to cover the dress all over or simply to accentuate particular elements. And apparently feathers are de rigueur for bridal gowns now too!

Unusual necklines

Asymmetric necklines and one-shoulder gowns are becoming almost as popular as strapless dresses. Look out for dropped boat necklines, which highlight the shoulders and create a subtly revealing look.

Fabric
The romance of lace can't be underestimated and it continues to be a popular fabric choice for brides. You could have your gown created in lace or add lace panels, perhaps from your Mum's wedding dress to add extra sentimental value? This season various designers have also been employing metallic fabrics on their wedding dresses, adding sashes for example, for a splash of colour.
