Honeymoon at home

Holidaying in Scotland – or, to be fully on trend, going on a 'staycation' – is definitely a great way to pack your honeymoon full of beautiful countryside, chic dwellings and plenty of new experiences. Plus, having your honeymoon at home is a great option if you have young kids or want to save a bit of cash. Here's our five tips to having a successful honeymoon in Scotland!

1. You might not be leaving the country but remember that your honeymoon is a chance for you and your new hubby to spend time alone. Just because you're having a honeymoon at home, doesn't mean you have to visit relative - especially if you're only doing so because you'd feel guilty driving past their house! Instead get in touch ahead of time to find out their favourite spots to visit or travel by sea plane instead!

2. Switch your phone to a voicemail message that says you're on honeymoon. If someone really needs to get in touch you then they'll leave a message.

3. Book the best hotel rooms and restaurants you can afford – check out our online venues search for ideas. Don't settle for second best just because you're having a honeymoon at home. Instead use this as an opportunity to experience how the other half live for a week by having a luxury honeymoon in Scotland! Or if your budget doesn't stretch that far, why not have a fabulous extravagant mini-moon instead?

4. Travel somewhere in the country you've never been to before. This is your chance to see your homeland as a tourist would, so try not to fall into the temptation of only visiting the places you know are safe bets. A bit of risk will only add to the excitement and gives you something special to remember about your trip!

5. Accept that the weather is probably not going to be great, and that in all likelihood it could be pretty bad. Then if it's sunny you'll be really happy! Plan ahead, bring waterproof clothing if you hope to get involved in some outdoor activities. And remember a day spent Scrabble from the comfort of your lovely hotel bedroom, wearing your pyjamas and holding a glass of champers could, however, end up one of the best of your trip!
