Groom’s Outfit
- kilt hire: from £55
- buying a made-to-order full kilt outfit: £395-1000
- buying a made-to-measure full kilt outfit: £600-1000+

Mother of the Bride/Groom’s Outfit: £100-800
* If you’re hoping your mums’ outfits will pitch in at the £100-150 bracket, this would be either evening wear that’s also suitable for mother of the bride/groom purposes or perhaps end of season outfits. Having said that, many salons stock lots of great mums’ outfits for around £200. You could possibly pay less than the going rate by looking round the department stores.

Bridesmaid Dresses: £150-300 each
* These prices are what you would expect to pay if you go to a bridesmaids’ outlet or bridal salon stocking dresses for attendants. However, you could feasibly pay less by picking up dresses in the sales of major high street shops, although these won’t fit as well as they won’t be made-to-order.

Wedding Dress
- gown hire: £150-500 (depending on the type of dress)
- buying a gown: £250-3000+
- alterations: £50-250>
* Note that there will only be certain gowns available for hire; for example some salons won’t hire out silk or organza dresses because they are easily damaged. Another way of saving money is buying a dress in the sale, which may cost you as little as £50! Even if you don’t find such a bargain, you may spot dresses with up to £1000 off in the sale or at the end of a season. Ex-sample dresses are another way of getting a bargain, though make sure the condition is up to scratch before you buy.

Bridal Lingerie: £50-300
* The higher end of this scale would be for a corset, which can be made-to-measure and therefore more expensive than you would generally expect for underwear.

Fabric: £12-30/metre
* If you’re getting a dress made for you, your designer may be able to get discounts on expensive fabrics. If you’re buying your own fabric, it’s worth visiting a few independent shops as, if you ask, they are sometimes willing to give you a fair percentage off what’s on the price tag.

Gown Cleaning: £85-130
* It is worth asking a specialist wedding dress cleaner to do this as they are used to working with delicate fabrics, and they will usually store the dress as part of the price – which is vital for preventing mothballs and mould.
