Decoration, That's What You Need! Print E-mail

Rankine PhotographyFROM FANTASTIC TO funky and everything in between, your wedding venue can be anything you want it to be
Flowers are the obvious choice for sprucing up a party, but there are plenty of alternatives that look just as good and cost less. The degree to which you need to think about decorations depends largely on the type of venue you’re hiring. Some are pretty much a blank canvas, allowing you to do what you like, which is quite exciting. Others are quite particular about where you can place and hang things, both for safety reasons and to protect older buildings. If you have a wedding theme or colour scheme, this can make things a lot easier as either one will dictate what you do next – otherwise you can be struck by indecision as there are just so many pretty things you could buy!

Consider bringing in an events company, especially if you have lots of ideas or a specific vision in mind but are unsure how to bring them to life; they can be especially useful for larger weddings. Whether you do it yourself or not, remember to check with your venue wedding co-ordinator who will be able to advise you of any restrictions.

Extras

Although flowers remain the most popular way of decorating a venue, consider other options too, because there are plenty. Candles, for example, are excellent for creating a cosy atmosphere – they're perfect for warming up winter weddings and look lovely. Another way to brighten up a room is by getting the lighting right; it’s hard to overstate the difference that good lighting can make to the look of a room. If you are on a tight budget, then keep everything elegant and simple with crisp table linens, sparkling glasses, plain white tableware and perhaps a beautiful floral centrepiece. Really that’s all you need, often less is more and simplicity can be more effective than anything more fussy.

Centrepieces

Essentially centrepieces are the main focal point of each table and every guest will notice them; they also help you set a particular tone. Just remember not to go too over the top; you don't want it to look cluttered and the costs can soon soar when there’s one for every table. For a simple but effective centrepiece why not consider a single white stem in a vase filled with pebbles or a balloon that fits your colour scheme? There are plenty of other ways to add interest besides centrepieces, items such as indoor sparklers and bottles of bubbles always are always fun for guests too.
