The SWD Bridal Price Guide Print E-mail

THE FOLLOWING GUIDE is based on The SWD’s undercover investigations and was compiled to give you an indication of typical prices when you’re just starting out with your wedding plans. These figures are generalisations – costs depend on a lot of factors and you may be quoted more or less for various reasons. Remember to discuss what you’re looking for with potential suppliers; most are willing to work to a budget

the ceremony & paperwork

Church weddings: £100-250
There is no set fee or charge that you must pay the minister or priest, but most couples offer a donation as a thank you for conducting the ceremony.

Civil weddings: £103.50+
Having a civil ceremony will cost you at least this much, but depending on where you’re getting married it may be more – you need to check this with the local council your venue falls under. The figure of £103.50 takes into account the necessary paperwork and your marriage certificate, but the charges are completely different for each local council, and factors such as whether the registrar has to travel make a difference too. The costs can add up to double the amount stated above.

bridal party fashion budget

Groom’s outfit
- kilt hire: from £55
- buying a made-to-order full kilt outfit: £395-1000
- buying a made-to-measure full kilt outfit: £600-1000+

Mother of the bride/groom’s outfit: £100-800
* If you’re hoping your mums’ outfits will pitch in at the £100-150 bracket, this would be either evening wear that’s also suitable for mother of the bride/groom purposes or perhaps end of season outfits. Having said that, many salons stock lots of great mums’ outfits for around £200. You could possibly pay less than the going rate by looking round the department stores.

Bridesmaid dresses: £150-300 each
* These prices are what you would expect to pay if you go to a bridesmaids’ outlet or bridal salon stocking dresses for attendants. However, you could feasibly pay less by picking up dresses in the sales of major high street shops, although these won’t fit as well as they won’t be made-to-order. arrow.jpg
